Regarding it being Ymir showing them things: In my interpretation that's tangentially true, I think it is Ymir connecting people through the paths both to her and others and their former selves. I think this is Ymir connecting to Mikasa but also connecting Mikasa with her whole timeline. The "mirror man" is a literal mirror, Mikasa's future self from after the specials connecting to the younger version of herself. It's tragic because like Eren, future Mikasa is trying to convince her younger self to let go of the hope of saving Eren's life. The hope of having a life with him that would never happen was the hook that kept her in a toxic relationship. IMHO it is again the situation where even though time is bridged the future cannot change the past because all time within the paths happens in the same instant. Future Mikasa can't influence young Mikasa to make different choices because Future Mikasa is the future of that young Mikasa who couldn't let go. Purely my own speculations, but that's how I make sense of this OVA.

In the final episode/special when Eren is telling Armin about Ymir he says "King fritz burned her home, made her a slave, cut her tongue out..." and also if you rewatch the flashback you see her looking at a man having their tongue cut out and she's in line, also you never see her tongue after that point when her mouth is open. Don't mind me, just being pedantic :D (P.S. Umm Actually is such a great comedy gameshow)
