Attack on Titan 4x27

The battle ends... Now towards the greatest ending of all time! =)

Edit: After finishing the show, i def think only Keith should have died here and Magath should have replaced random Müller dingdong :D

Attack on Titan 4x27

just for my understanding, what's müller?

Arimpact

I think its a common idea that while deus as machina is lame, wrench as machina is always okay which has... some limtied truth to it but is rathe oversimplified

HAL

it makes perfect sense for them to die character arc wise but the destroyer did indeed kindos pop up when they needed a reson to die, last time we saw that was in the flashback when they learned what radio was

HAL

33:25 probably someone the jägerists don't already see as an enemy he already passed that on to those recruits who didn't like beating him up

HAL

27:40 I guess we should assume htat whenever we see one of our scouts slaughtering jägerists the others are doing the same at the same tiem off screen so the numbers drop quite fast which is why there's a bunch of htem until close to the end and well they had four titans and mikasa and titans will draw a LOT of relatively uselesss attention from rookies who have never fought a titan before it might just be the opposite of the infamous 30 movei seconds that last 10 minutes where in this case time passes normalls and whenever we see something other stuff we don't see happens at the same time

HAL

15:45 probably eren counted as technically still alive when he was basically JUST a brain and back in season 3 reiner kindof showed how transferring his concoiousness to the rest of his nervous system is an emergency measure he trained and had to activate

HAL

15:20 galliard was overly confidnet and had no clue what he was getting into and the nfought far mroe capable soldiers then again falco has precisely 0 experience using a titan his transformation in two brothers was basically like erens transformation in the forest, if he transforms now thats like erens first transformation in season 1 where he just goes on a rampage and remembers nothing

HAL

they were both basically drill seargents for child soldiers regretting what they did

HAL

a little heroic moment for two of the previously main mosnters just to cement moral complexity

HAL

well he only needs one leg to kick :P

HAL

also if theo had been müller then armins last little tactical speach would have been very weird

HAL

gabis redemption arc is her shooting people we want to die instead of people we want to live well not its actually more than that but the fact that eren called her murder brat in japanese when he could see the futurei s kinda funny now

HAL

Regarding Annie killing a hundred scouts, if you notice in season 1, she never kills scouts mindlessly. She only killed those who would attack her or prevent her from escaping. A small detail in season 1 that gives hindsight on Annie's personality and the context of her situation as a child soldier. She doesn't want to kill, when she does, it makes miserable.

flyingbread

hahaha that's a funny fun fact. Love it.

I don't if Hajime Isayama was joking when he said this but he told a interviewer that he was intending to kill off Levi at some point. However when he told his wife, who was a fan of the series, about his intention on killing off Levi she allegedly threatened him with a divorce. 🤣 Seriously, Levi has a big female fanbase so they probably would of gone nuts and hunted him down. 🤣 However Isayama did the next best thing and made Levi a short manlet that ends up becoming a one legged and one eyed cripple at the end of the series.

That becomes a question of timing then. One could argue that Keith simply didn't "make it in time for the boat", but honestly we both know that's not why. Since you saw the ending already and we can talk about it. They had to make it about the new generation somehow. Even Hanji died, from pure story perspective Keith surviving after this will just make things more complicated. (yes Levi survived but common it's Levi, as in if Levi died everyone in the community would revolt no matter how the story turns out, dude has plot armor thicker than steel and rightfully so :) ).They could have just not introduced Keith at all here but 1. it would be missed opportunity to be poetic for the mass audience. 2. how would you write him post the ending of the show as a fitting character who survived? Might not be perfect, I agree, but I think it was the best Iseyama could have done all things considered.

Arimpact

Story wise I still think he should have gone with them and been Müller. Then Keith also does with nobody knowing.

Magath has no choice but to die, he's on an island full of enemies with no way out even if he let Keith handle it. Keith doesn't see a place in this world anymore. All his same age officers got turned into titans and killed, plus he did just turn "traitor" too by bombing the reinforcements. The Paradise Island isn't for him anymore. No Country For Old Men.

Shadis and Maggaths death are one of the most beautiful circles in aot i think. For the same reason Erwin had to fulfill his Circle in this story in the Charge against the Beast titan, these BOTH had to die. And they did in the most magnificient way possible. The author isayama once was asked on what Episode he had worked the most and he answered: Season3 EPisode11 "Bystander". Many people wondered bc its not even a cinematicly epic Episode its mostly story of Keith Shadis and his relationship to Grisha and Carla and how he wanted to be the "Main Protagonist" but had to accept that he's not capable of that and that he'd lead so many people into death caused him to give his work as the Scouts Chef to Erwin. Keith accepted his siderole and every scene he delivered that through something, like the moment he's gotten himself beaten up by the yaegerists. The more he saw Carla's son growing the more proud was on the kids he trained, for being mature and not just strong. He felt regret(thats what he said in THIS episode we're now in) and felt proud that they connected to do something "That leads the Elders out of the Forest"(sorry for that metaphor :-) hopefully you get it). He doesn't wantto see the outcome of all of that, and he didnt even wanted to get any attention(NOBODY has seen him entering the Boat even if he could've said something or leave a message) so he literally just suicide, helping his "kids" doing something to be proud of, and accepting his role as the "Bystander". And for Maggath: Season4 introduced a new cast, that mirrors the cast we got introduced to in Season1. Maggath is the same guy just on the opposite side. He's the one training Kids to kill for racism and nationalism. But seing Gabi, growing up through experiencing these relationships with Kaya and Sashas Family, literally raising herself that racism is wrong; and the other kids too that made all these ideas of not killing anymore...even Maggath found a fatherly role, and due to the absolut low chances of a positive outcome in that rumbling situation he decided to sacrifice himself, wearing the coat with the Wings of Freedom(that was originally the Flag of his Enemies if you think about it...); dying proud with the one, he could've drinken a beer with.... I love the fact that these Men are dying. It fills the term "Bittersweet" to perfection. And once again, proofs genius Storytelling through detailconnectivity off the Episodes. :D

Can't wait for the ranking of characters video. I wonder if it would be better to do it as a tier list or as a bracket where you have to argue each VS match with yourself XD

Anna Kyruin

Also literally died "standing by" while Magath blew up the boat :D

Anna Kyruin

I suspect the practical concern of there being an army of Jaegerists flooding into the ship to try to stop them while they've locked themselves in the munitions room also prevented him from avoiding sacrificing himself here. If he had opened the door he might not have been able to get it closed again in time to stop them from getting to Theo before he was done setting up the bomb.

Anna Kyruin

I misread that as Keith should have replaced Mueller and I was like “how would that work?”

My Toasty Toast

The quote (there are a few translations) "Humanity will never stop fighting itself.. until it shrinks to a size of one or fewer." is indeed Erwin's response to Pixis asking when the fairy tale of humanity ceasing to fight each-other will come true.

Anna Kyruin

i understand your point about the other ship even though you can see it in the background i wished that they said something about it so it doesn't feel so sudden, but i disagree about Keith he said 4 episodes ago that with the yeagerist controlling there's no place for people like him and he doesn't want live in hidden and shit outdoors 😂 also he helped Magath to get in the ship even if he tried to get out it will be hard with all the yeagerist left but i agree that maybe they should've showed that more

MG0

25:33 ayo Mikasa did what? Regarding Keith, I think it's a fitting death, narratively. He was always a bystander, so how better to die then by no one knowing you have. I agree with it being a bit rushed tho, it could probably have used another episode. By this point Isayama was fixated on ending the story on chapter 139 (13 year curse, 9 titans, 140 in numerology is freedom which is never achieved). I think this battle is the one he had to sacrifice a bit to get that to happen.

Erjon Sejdijaj

And he already said that he is not going to run and hide in mountains, he probably knew/plan he is going to die in this fight

puremetalcore

I like the idea that Magath as commander of Warrior unit was very used to cut out inexperienced warriors from rampaged titans. His cut was fast, precise and clean :) Thank you for reaction

Aidos Smagulov

Maybe they did that because Shadis same as Magath was teaching children to fight 🤔 And another thing Shadis died as a bystander, nobody will never know that he was helping when took out reinforcement, he always thought about himself that he is not special, maybe he accepted that it's not necessary people know about his "victories" to be special
