It's kind of funny that I didn't really cry the episode that Sasha died, but I bawled just about every time she was brought up again afterwards.

A lot of people hate Gabi, so its nice to see someone really appreciate her character. Though to be fair, I think a lot of people dislike her just because her english VA sounds kind of annoying, lol.

OMG you figured it out that the Attack on Titan world is mirrored to our world, according to the official source, so that the Sun rises in the west and sets in the east. Also, the writing is actually Japanese Katakana written upside down so that we can read some of them. (I'm Japanese btw)

I can see why the OST could irritate you but I think it's intentionally put there to show cycle of violence continues (not necessarily so people think 'epic!', although I'm sure some did), just the context changes. Seasons ago the same action could be glorified and seen as black and white without information eventually learned, and this OST can make the viewer feel conflicted. It's somewhat similar to how season 4 opens with an in depth perspective from Marley. I personally thought that story structure was brilliant alongside you, however I've seen others who wanted no part in getting attached to new characters and seeing another perspective, and wanted a story in which they wouldn't have to feel so conflicted watching. AOT is a show that can be watched on many different levels of depth and it comes down to personal preference of course, but I do think it wasn't thoughtlessly placed there for the reason you assumed.

Apple seed for sure would be a good decision too i think even though it's the thematic soudtrack for berthold. It's just how aot's soundtracks work they start with chords in season1 that evolve for the characters they're written for. Barricades was a bit out of the box mostly bc the soundtracks they have are linked to season1 characters while as Barricades is a completely unique theme only accuring in season2 episode 12 showing the scouts being slaughtered but making they're way out due to eren setting them "free". These fighting scenes and the topic of relief are linked to the new generation of scouts(and sadly yaegerists) that overtake and now kill the last normal titans to exist in a hommage to the first seasons. Ur indeed not wrong that other music would also fit, but it's more that the reaction can't really go into depth on the sountrack storyline. @storieswithstyle
Don't think ur too reaching lol literally everyone here is obsessed w. the beauty of the dialogues in aot. Ur one of the only one reacting that goes really into depth. Thaw is a literal masterpiece just how they concluded that part of Gabi/Sasha Storyline. When i first saw Gabi confessing that she's the devil in couldnt but cry. Gabi fr is the mirrored plotversion of Eren Jaeger coming out of the deepest dark just to change for the better. Aot resembles humanity and doesnt ignore any brutal fact or tries to utterly search for fanservice. It's just raw.

no the scene is meant to be tragic its jsut that the music is meant less literally heroic but more as a callback to the imagined heroism they've lost

it's a callback to season 1, what we thought the show was going to be like and what pulled most of these recruits to where they are now and none of it was ever waht we thought it was

assuming their world is as big as ours, there's about 7200km worth of walls, earth ahs 512000000km² so they'd have to walk on average 71000km to compeltely cover the entire surface
but if you can spread out a bit and still do enough damage and you only need to completely cover hte landmasses you could reduce that to about 10000km on average at which point the time taken is mostly givne by how logn it takes for any of htem to reach hte other side of the world

the one characte i woul love to have more of and a deeper descusion is Eren Kruger aka The Owl. i think for such an inresting and important character he had way to less screen time.

The Music is just representing how far they have come, and how easily they can deal with the THREAT that the Titans were a season ago now. it really brings together they´re quick sence of judgement to prevent any more unecessary deaths, contrary to what hapened in season 1 Trost. Me personally, I remember being Super Hyped when i saw this scene for the first time. I can´t really grasp why now, but I think it was just making me happy that they could organize a plan to save everyone that quickly and execute it almost perfectly. Also the Song is one of my All time favorites and I allways get way to hyped when it comes up in my AoT study playlist, so I may be pretty BIASed about this one. I understand your PoV tho. Because you were on a completely different train of thought before it started, so it wasn´t fitting your Ideals.

Every time we spend time with Reiner in moments like where he says "I couldn't stop it!" at the beginning of this episode, I'm reminded of the hand to hand combat training scene in season one (ep 4 I think?) that opens with Reiner throwing the knife to Eren with the line "Now it's your turn to be the villain"

It’s funny because I completely understand your points on the music choice at the end from an objective point, but subjectively I love the song there.
To me that scene is both a callback to the first episode of the series with Titans appearing in Shiganshina, and a demonstration of the growth of the characters.
In Shiganshina (and during the Trost attack), there was only misery, despair, and defeat in the face of titans. Now, Jean is confidently able to lead several groups of people, make a successful plan on the spot, and wipe out all the titans.
A sad melancholy song in my mind wouldn’t have fit our characters mindset in the moment. They are much more hardened now, and were focusing purely on action and saving people. There is time to grieve later and they know that. That’s why I liked the heroic music for that scene.

For me, notwithstanding the parallel to season 2 where this same music played when the gang defeated Zeke's titans, I actually liked the music. The dichotomy between the seemingly optimistic tone and the dreadful actions being performed to me seem like a reluctant determination of the characters. Because they *are* doing cool stuff, there's no two ways about that. Isolated from context, that scene is just an extremely cool action scene. But the surrounding content really gives the whole thing an odd vibe. Are we meant to root for them? Or are we not? They are determined to help the people by killing these titans, but are they doing the right thing? The dichotomy throws a lot of questions on the viewer, which they'll all have to answer themselves.
Besides, personally I really feel like a sad OST would've been extremely on the nose and wouldn't have done the conflicted nature of the scene justice. But that's just my opinion I guess.

I was actually kind of frustrated hearing this song again, since it's what plays when Historia tells Ymir that she never feels afraid when she's with her and then kills her first titan, and I really don't like the narrative that Isayama chose for our warrior queen between then and now.

The compatibilism aspect is still a spoiler at this point imo, since we haven't gotten the Eren pov yet to showcase that, even though ofc it's implied in Memories of the Future as well

I mostly agree with you about the music at the end. It’s a bit too upbeat but the lyrics do fit:
“We've got to learn to get back, get back
But is it worth the price of our soul?
You know you had to kill her, kill her!
Oh my dirty hands, it never fades
And if we get out, get out
I'll think about the price of our soul”
I also think they wanted to find a place to put one of their most popular songs and the tempo doesn’t really fit anywhere this season

I thought the same about the extremely odd music choice. It took me out as well so I just assumed the director wanted a cool "anime" moment because the action looks like a callback to the season 2 castle scene.

Most underrated part of this episode is how far Jean's character as come. In season 1 he was hiding behind a hole waiting for Eren to save him from the titans, and now in this episode Jean is in front of the hole saving the recruits behind the hole from the titans.
He's finally become the leader that Marco said he will be.
