Fighting Rod!

Attack on Titan 3x09

Also, cool little detail that really adds to the realism and consistency the show never fails display: in season 1 we learn from Hange that titans’ bodies are of surprisingly low density. That fact adds credibility to Erwin’s gamble of Rod not having a mouth due to dragging its face across the ground with massive force and friction. If they had the same density of human bodies, perhaps that gamble would not have worked.

You’re the first person I’ve seen astutely defend Erwin immediately after Levi’s remark on how all of Erwin’s plans involve gambles. The Scout Regiment is always dealing with an overwhelming lack of information; in order to win in such disadvantaged situations, you NEED to take risks. I appreciate your recognition of that as it can be frustrating watching other reactors think Erwin just gets a kick out of gambling and risking lives. Even Pyxis - who explicitly dislikes the concept of gambling - is intelligent enough to know that taking risks is their only win condition. When was the ONLY time Pyxis had won against the titans? It was when he took a huge gamble on Eren, who sealed the hole with the boulder in Trost. On a smaller, contained scale with minimal unknowns - say a squad battling a couple of normal titans - of course the most cautious approach which leverages the slightest advantage and minimizes risk is ideal. But in the grander scheme involving situations that can determine the fate of humanity - Trost being breached, no information except the lead of traitors being within and the basement being of importance towards the mysteries of the titans, Eren being captured and taken out of human territory, conspiracy within the government, etc. - the only winning mentality has to unfortunately accept the many unknown variables and make the best educated guess based on what little information is known that can increase the range of outcomes from all losing ones to at least one that opens a path to victory. It’s a truly rough position of leadership to be in as there are bound to be casualties, but thinking any progress can be made in a safer way is naive due to the lack of information.

I've suggested lost girls but said I'm not sure when the third part is best seen and it might be better to hold off on it for now

I wonder if you are going to watch OVA lost girls episode 3 or if someone suggested to watch it?

(Note, this is all conjecture, not at all confirmed, using only what we've been told at this point) I think the moment where Rod dies is a great example of the writer showing us most people do what they do, even the most seemingly vile things, because they believe it is right. The way I see this series of memories paints Rod as someone who sincerely wants to end the threat of titans. He sees the horror of them and cannot understand why the first king would want this nightmare to continue, but if he becomes a titan and takes the founding titan into himself then he will be bound to the first king's will, I think this is why he says he must not become a titan himself. So he adopts a strategy of having others take on the founding titan and trying in vain hope to get the first king to change their mind. "Offering his prayers to god" as he puts it. The burden of this weighs heavily on him and he feels he cannot share this with his family who are also tied into this fate so he turns for emotional support to a serving girl (Historia's mother) whom he ends up having a child with, which ends up getting her killed. His whole life (like so much in this series) is a compounded tragedy. Fully acknowledge there's many interpretations, but that's my take on what we know about Rod at this point in the series.

14:58 time for this towns mandatory anatomy lesson

Regarding the size differnece, some of it is artistic freedom used repeatedly but he does also kindof stretch and contract softly, moving like a maggot so his dimensions do kinda change, we've seen him kinda stretch and contract by likea factor of 2 when crawling last episode

HAL

Love the generational storytelling in how repeatedly children and civilians are shown looking up to them like they used to look up to the scouts, now getting their chance to change things

HAL

They also have to make an evacuation effort, no matter how futile, not just for morality but also because they're in the middle of a government takeover partially justified by how the previous government would refuse to evacuate people - now just leaving people as bait completely indifferently would be a terrible look for them politically
