Or

Saving private (Citizen) Diana

I mean, yeah, by default.

Welcome to a new edition of, “this was going to be the last update to this comic but I came up with more stuff so next one will be the last for real” of the Closing time AKA Stuff happens the comic.

Originally this batch would have been 3 pages, last time I had expanded it to 6 pages but it ended up (so far) being 16 pages and split in two.

I got to expand the rock band vs circus aspect and got to play just a bit more with my new guys.

Like Mikey, the acrobat deer. For male cervines to follow dance and acrobatics as a Career it's common practice to shed their antlers constantly so they don't hurt their partners or themselves which just adds to the stereotype of it being girl and gay men activities. He doesn't mind though. His jumpsuit has a straight line across it and he has joked in the past that that is the only straight thing about him.

Or Lady Fátima! the mentalist Lemur! Not her real name though, and she's also not Middle eastern. Sadly she's doing a little bit of cultural appropriation, but to be fair it didn't just happen out of nowhere. She inherited the character from the great Salman, an old mentalist who was actually from the middle east who mentored and gave Fátima her stage name and persona when she was his assistant-apprentice.

The circus is a collective but she's the closest thing to an owner as most of the infrastructure is to her name. She's in her late 30s and has lived a lot so she sees the band and the main bohemians we know as a bunch of kids. Also in my mind she sounds like Mexican voice actress Erica Edwards which would be double casting as that's also the voice Diana usually has in my head.

And finally the summoner. AKA, the master of ceremonies. You know, the gorilla. Probably the oldest member of the collective now that the great Salman is sadly not with us anymore. The summoner was a kind of failed actor before he joined the circus to announce the act. It's insane that he didn't try voice acting because he has a great deep voice but I guess he didn't because he yearns for the live audiences. He's there for the clapping. Speaking of voice actors, in my mind he would be played by Colombian voice actor Juan Carlos Tinoco, which is just a fun fact I'm adding because I love the contradiction of him having a voice actor assigned even though in all the pages he has appeared he hasn't said shit. [Edited: I guess he did say something on page 57 but the implication with the “censoring" is that whatever he yelled he apparently got bleeped. Lmao]

Now that you know more about these characters, look at me waving my wand and finishing my magic trick as we probably won't ever see them again. Lol jk

Now if you ask me, had the fight continued, I think the WornDown Children would have been doomed as a group, but I think RJ would have beaten Dimitri.

It would have been even though, but in the end Dimitri is an artist, he would have tried to show off, especially knowing who's in the audience, though she's apparently not impressed by that sort of thing. On the other hand RJ is a working man and when he gets into a fight he’s on a “just get the job done” mindset. He's been there, that's why he was trying hard to scalate down. (More on that eventually)

Don't take this as gospel though. If these two titans face off against each other again eventually I may change my mind. And that's a big if tho, but luckily for now Diana and Sylvie (and Dominique) have saved the day Lion King 2 style. Kinda, at least one of them likes to imagine that.

Speaking of page 57, I've always liked the old tradition of censoring swearing with symbols pretty funny, I used to do it all the time, not because I'm uncomfortable with swearing but because I've always thought it looks funny but with these comic I've been dropping it because it feel out of place. But I'm now able to bring it back with the context that I didn't really want to write a dialogue for each character on that panel. You're not automatically know what they are saying because they're all talking at the same time. That besides having Zara saying the actual word (fuck(see, I can say it)) in the same panel looks funny to me. Like, then what are they all saying?

Another thing I liked is RJ never beating the dad friend allegations, hitting the not mad just disappointed when Tony, Davo and Tak get in the action. In their defense they really thought they were helping. You know, to intimidate and all that…

Anyway, I think the next update will be the final one, though I clearly can't promise that. After that, as I’ve said before, I have some short comics I've been wanting to make since last year but after that I'm already starting to figure out what my next long one could be and with luck it could be a bit less stuff-happensy lmao.

Whenever that happens what I do know is that it will be a bit shorter and either, a Diana Tony adventure! Or a Lil Power Hour! Unless I come up with something else.

See you next time

Well, yeah, that's actually more or less what I was aiming to hint at with this last part. To make the conflict between the groups a little more believable. Though it wasn’t the plan from the beginning, it happened spontaneously as I was writing it after the Lil “Diana hit by a car” joke. ^^

Juan Daniel Campos Hernandez

In stark contrast to my last comment, Dimitri basically being the circus's guardian angel during potentially dangerous late nights performing in the street combined with his attitude here made me think more and more that if it wasn't for the whole 'hit by a car' misunderstanding, there's a distinct possibility he might've been worried that the band were something like sex traffickers after Diana...and there's a distinct possibility that might've actually been the case before he had the car thing confirmed, especially with his rather pointed line of 'and what do you want with the lady?!' in response to RJ's rather poorly worded line of 'look buddy we're just here for her' which is a rather ominous first thing to say to a stranger about wanting someone in their group to the point that it could be interpreted as something that a kidnapper would say...and combined with Lil's panic over Diana being a pretty girl alone out in the streets at night...and in her panic she might've raised concerns over other things besides Diana being hit by a car if Lil wasn't so stoned...anyway that's the only conclusion I can come to based on all the evidence, so maybe Dimitri's standoffish attitude might've not been entirely unwarranted even if it wasn't for the car misunderstanding, and this could be a subtle way of the comic dealing with more heavy subjects regardless of whether that was your intention. ;P

Morlund

Lmao, yeah it was a rough start. Dimitri can be a bit hotheaded sometimes, but he has his reasons though. So now we can see where does these meeting takes up

Juan Daniel Campos Hernandez

Geez, I didn't expect the WDC's & Bohemians' first meeting to be so chaotic and confrontational! Tho at least it happens believably and not just contrived for the sake of drama, with Dimitri understandably being protective of Sylvie's new friend due to thinking the newcomers hit her with a car (there's that running gag again!) and the B3 boneheadedly escalating things, both of which sound very in-character. :D Also no surprise that Dominique is the only one who can reign Dimitri in...maybe one day dad friend RJ will get the chance to do the same with the B3. XD Now that things have cooled down hopefully there'll be better relations between the band & circus going forward, especially once Diana officially gets together with Sylvie (& co...?) ^_^

Morlund

Thank you, the nodding is actually one of the things that worried me that it wouldn't be clear what she's doing so I'm glad to see it was lol

Juan Daniel Campos Hernandez

I think it's an innate sense from all us Latinos of always wanting to start a fight at the minor inconvenience, I think it's quite funny lol. This batch has so many things going on that I don't know which one I like the most XD, from R.J and Zara's reaction from being called a couple before it becomes "canon" to how you drew Diana banging her head to say "yes"... If I wanted to say what I love of every single detail I would write an essay, so I'll just say: I LOVED THIS ^^
