Closing Time [19-24]

[Edited: Originally posted as pages 13 - 18]

[Previously on The Worn Down Children: [P1 - P2]

And now: Closing Time [13-18]

Or.

The steal of Davo’s hammer by the coward roadie Ryan.

Except I realized a bit too late that I kind of already messed up the continuity, see, I had already mentioned him once I think. But with this comic, that “appearance” gets retconned for reasons that will become clear by the end, or maybe not so evident but still… Good thing is that it was just a mention. Also, Ryan isn't a coward, that wasn't fair of me, it's just that the reference doesn't work if you don't put the word coward somewhere in there.

Anyway…

Here's finally the continuation of what's officially the longest comic I've ever done.

First we get the triumphal return of Diana and Lil from the Cafe and we get to see the exact moment Lil’s candy kicks in and she goes full hyena. So she's in for a night.

Some months ago I made this short comic “I don't wanna talk about it” and I mentioned that it was supposed to be a bit of a larger comic but I felt it would work better as its own thing and with Tina making the question. And now you can see the context of where that bit would have been.

Also I can't believe it took me this long to make a Spinal Tap reference. Originally I was just going to draw this scene with RJ for fun but it works better with the aforementioned Ryan, the former Worn Down Children roadie and very close friend of Tony. Thing that I think is finally starting to explain that famous “*” lol

Speaking of which, there are 2 versions of page 16 because I haven't decided yet on one. I liked the switch joke but I got the feeling that that may be Diana over talking a bit, see, she likes to tease him but she would never out him, even while high as eff she knows better than that. Thing is, the original joke was more explicit so I took it out but then I arrived at this sort of compromise.

Here I point out a dynamic I had already mentioned in the Roast piece between Diana and Tony. “She knows”  But more importantly I point out a dynamic between Tony and the rest of the band “They don't”

So, I’ve always liked to keep this thing about Tony in the air but it's a good chance to make it clear just for once. Tony is what the scientists would call a “Bisexual” but, as he would say, "barely". He’s mostly into women and thus he identifies as straight, so that's why he has straight on his character sheet, which sets the precedent that I can lie in those (though not really) so make what you want out of that. And yeah, that could be a character arc of a running gag for him, I haven't decided.

I especially find hilarious the idea of Davo being oblivious to his best friend and roommate's escapades (I liked this phrasing, but it makes it sound like it happens a lot though, so just to be clear, it doesn't) Diana just found out. To over explain a joke that I sort of already over explained a bit already on the Roast piece when Diana jokes about Tony being good at managing the sausages as well, the rest of the band got it as a “self pleasure” joke but both Tony and Diana knew what she meant.

See, the center piece for this comic was always Tak being back in town from college and trying to catching up making us get a bit more of some of the characters backgrounds, like with what Davo's former band would have been here, the other band’s roadie and his story with Tony and, as you can see, what I'm teasing here for the next batch. So stay tuned!

And I'm hoping the next one will be done quicker than this one. See, when I started this comic I had written down the script for around 15 pages and an outline of other stuff I wanted to happen in the comic. Two pages got scrapped when I did the Davo but as its own thing and from the other 13 I've already done 9 because I came up with more pages while making what I have already.

But between last batch and this one I sat down to write and now I have the complete 40 something pages script for this comic, (That's what it ended up being for my own surprise) including a couple of pages that go before the first batch, that among other thing explain Tak status as “Back in town” and also set the timeline for this comic establishing it as a sort of ?prequel. Have this in mind moving forward

I'll be adding those pages when I'm closer to finishing though.

The point here is that having an actual script will make the process easier and knowing how much is still left to do will pressure me to work faster. Or at least that's what I hope.

So far, yeah it has been

Cool! Cool! So the gimmick for episode-naming in this "series" would be song titles ^^

I've been fooling around with alternative subtitles for each release but the official one I thought of from the beginning will be revealed in the next one. One clue: it's a Beatles song reference.

Diana going full hyena when high was always going to be a running gag that I haven't found enough chances to do lol. And on the other stuff, well, it was about time we got some goddamn answers lol. And who knows what other ones the future may entail (in this comic)? But there are

Finally, at long last Diana actually acts like a hyena, and all it took was her being high af! XD Even more finally, at long last there's confirmation of Tony's orientation and the mysterious "*", as well as one of his old love interests that everyone but Diana was oblivious about like a reverse of RJ&Zara's situation. X3 And most of all finally, at long last we get to finding out How I Met Your Mother-I mean how RJ met Zara, which of course makes me even more eager to see the next pages! :D (themotherpartforZaracomesmuchlaterpresumably :3 )

Eyyyy! This comic has really gone for long now xd. I love it! It's like watching an episode of a television series, this would be "The One With the After Hours Shopping" (or "Closing Time" like you said :v) And the mystery of the * is finally brought to light... Guess Tak and Tony have (barely) something in common lol
