It had been raining all day, heavy rain, a truly “Stay home and do nothing” kind of day. And it was appropriate cause Nicole had been undisposed anyways.
She had been feeling sick. Happens sometimes. She stood up and walked towards the light switch, and when the lights were off and the reflections on the window disappeared, that's when she saw it, towering in the middle of the rain, clearly looking inside her home.
She stared directly at it but it didn't even flinch. “For how long that thing could have been there?” Was one of the questions on Nicole's mind besides the obvious”What is that?” And the more disturbing “How much has it seen?”
Thrown off, Nicole quickly prepared to get to where it was, but by the time she put a foot out of the building, it was gone.
Since that day, that window’s curtains have been closed.
…
This took me three days.
Not in the 72 hours sense, but I was working on this during several periods over three days cause I couldn't get it right. First, the reflection perspective turned out to be way trickier than I thought. I drew it and redrew it like 5 times before I came up with the brilliant and never heard of before idea of acquiring a reference picture (Genius!).
I placed one of my drawing mannequins in front of a mirror and took a picture and then there were still some changes because it turns out “Anatomically accurate” is not always necessarily “good”.
And then I had some trouble figuring out what I wanted for the background. I sketched like 5 different attempts before I went with the abandoned factory setting that is slightly inspired by the abandoned factory in front of my house (To be fair, it is not so much abandoned as it is on sale but on a price so high that it will probably remain empty forever.)
Nicole is the expert of the group, the one that knows what's going on most of the time, so usually when drawing Nicole and Company she's the one remaining calm, and while she's calmed here too, I thought of showing her in a more vulnerable place here for a bit of a chance.
Also, there's a bit of a theme I have going on with recent pictures present here as well and because of it these last few have been a bit dark. And the theme is going to continue for a bit but before that, don't be surprised if the next Whisperers piece turns out to be remarkably silly.
Because it will be, I was sketching some of it before writing this.
Today's clue is the mere fact that there is a clue today.
