Part of my latest experiments. I did some doodles of my characters and I really liked one really similar to this one, and the idea was to do these very sketchy illustrations, but the anatomy didn’t make any sense so I had to start it again from zero, and I really like how it ended.
I also did some experimenting with the coloring. I tried to do something similar with the last Zara sketch but it didn’t really work. To complement the more sketchy lines I went for a kind of “grungy” look. The colors are inspired by Mission Hill except more saturated of course.
The sketching and line art was done on photoshop but the coloring and shading was done in procreate.
So, there’s not a lot of story here as you may notice. Just that whenever this is happening Lil and Diego are already dating. There was not a lot to do that day and Lil stayed up playing all night, she didn’t even notice when she fell asleep and Diego is catching up with his mangas.
Fun detail. It’s a small detail but the cover of the manga Diego is reading features Aki and Den from the Cartographer. I had played around with the idea of that universe being a manga/anime in the Worn Down Children’s universe before.
(Like this where, while you can't really see the characters you can see their universe's characteristic desert ships and the world Cartographer in japanese)
This week's chapter follows part of the gang as they try to reunite with Khun after his battle with Zep the Bounty Hunter as “The War Machine Arc” approaches its climax.
Some of that stuff would actually happen in an actual Cartographer story btw. Some day…
There’s also manga from the real world on theirs ofcourse, how could I explain Diego’s One Piece shirt if there were not?
Also one of these days I should really talk a bit about the other in universe manga that's featured as the other poster of a red panda in the Tak piece and it also features ocs I did on college but almost never posted for some reason... Yeah, I should...
