I was thinking about this piece the other day. Mainly about how I hadn't posted it before. So yesterday I looked for it and luckily I found the original wip PSDs because I wanted to do a few edits. And I said PSDs cause there were like 6 or 7 of them as, as you can see this was a big boy!
Back then it was the most detailed piece I had done. One of these days I'll reveal the current champion of that bracket. It's also the piece that helped me lose the fear of crowd pieces.
I had mentioned before that I hadn't drawn the band playing in a bit, and I think part of the reason for that is that after making this I was kind of satisfied in a sense. Tho lately I've been feeling the crave again. Lol
Especially because there's some stuff about this piece that feels a bit dated now in regards of my style and such. Hence the edits. I kind of wish I had posted it before.
I still like it of course. There's some stuff about that surprised as I had forgotten about them. Like some surprise cameos such as…
And if you wanna avoid spoilers and check the crowd around a bit before you could stop reading now…
Me. I had forgotten that I placed my parrot in the audience. I like how he always look confused any time he appears in something.
Another one that caught me by surprise is the owl ghost that Lil saw once flying by a window. Except that's not her. It's actually the medium witch girl that always goes around with a ghost who I believe is supposed to be invisible for this piece.
But when I first saw her I totally thought it was Lil's ghost which would be a really funny idea cause I can imagine Lil seeing her in the audience and having her mind blown.
Either way there's at least a ghost in the audience and I think that's great. Also I'm pretty sure an early concept of Nicole is also attending somewhere.
And lastly, besides Diego and Tina of course, there's a fan favorite. The tiger dude that was standing next to Tony at the bar of this comic. (No joke, that was supposed to be him. IDK Y) besides others I don't want to spoil.
Lore wise. I think this is a bit ahead in the band's career when they get to be in festivals, not as openers but main events. They got to play during magic hour and all that. That also explains Diego and Tina's presence as not incidental but they're there to see their respective partners (Awwww).
A more deep lore detail is the title of the live album cover. It's supposed to be a play on Alive somewhere. Which is the name of a song of the band.
The truth is that this fact was reversed ingeniered. I really liked the name Live somewhere for a live album. But still… another fun fact is that when I designed the band's logo I did several variants, but I have only used the base one. Here I finally got to use one of the other ones.
The stage they are standing is based on an open air auditorium on a college I live close from. But the overall background is inspired by a concert the Band Porter did for streaming during the pandemic on an empty stage with the mountains behind them. I saw that concert a bunch of times during the pandemic.
Last detail about this. It was while making this that I decided Tony and Diana would sing backing vocals.
