#39 - the best there is

This is an ancient project from August 2016, so naturally it looks pretty rough compared to my newer creations. I'll summarize some of the talking points about it that I had archived...
This project was a free request, and the requester wanted this NPC Orc to be playing around with the then-newly added SELFIE camera, but it was my decision to make it a little fun by making it Snapchatish.
There's some interesting technical achievements going on here as well. It was my first time messing around with focal lengths, which was critical for the "selfie" shot to look somewhat realistic. There's also some faux-depth of field going on in some of the shots. Faux-DOF, because at this point in time, I didn't know how to properly render with actual DoF effects yet, so I did it the stupid way by blurring the background by hand. The set itself is also very fake. It looks like it was shot "on location", but it's actually just the boardwalk + a clever screenshot. At this point in time, I also had no idea how to extract locations from the world yet, so I had to be pretty clever with the tools I had in my toolbox.
Funny how many things have changed since then. I would like to remake this project as a quickie, but I'll have to find a suitable Orc for it first. I tweeted about it here, so as of the time of this post at least, I'm still looking for Orcs that might be interested. You can DM me here if you want.
