Today in the category: "I can't believe I never posted this!" We have the actual kind of old piece I did for school from when I actually still did stuff for school.
For my second digital illustration/character design class one of my final projects was to take a character, either mine or from some other media and redesign it in another style.
So I took my character Khun the cartographer, who I drew all the time back then, and this was the result.
The style I drew him in it’s not something specific. But the idea was for it to look almost like a 3d model. Another thing that helped me and inspired to get to this style was the art of Stephanie R. Garcia: https://stephoble.tumblr.com/ And let me tell you. It was actually fun to track her art for this post because she deleted her instagram where I followed and I had forgotten the name.
This piece in particular is one of the main things that inspired me to later redesign the character to make him more iguana-like. And like I said. I can’t believe I forgot to post it anywhere before. I actually have this piece printed and on my bedroom wall because I had to print it to present it in school. I literally see it every day lol.
Another fun fact about this piece is that after making it I started trying using more “photorealistic” texturing for some other pieces I did now in my regular style. And let me tell you, those are all in the “I can totally believe I never posted this” category. I may post them one of these days. They’re part of my “artistic evolution” after all.
Besides there’s another illustration final project from my school days I’m gonna be posting soon.
