The Long awaited Beta! - The grand Escape: walktrough

First of, let me thank you for you patience with this one. This should have realistically been finished last month, and I have no real excuse on why it took so long.

Buuut, it was at the very least a great learning experience on how ai-packages work, which might be usefull for some background scenes in the ork stronghold later down the road.

So, what do we get today? pretty much everything I promised in the last post: reminder here,
But lets get over it one by one.

The Ambush system
Mostly unchanged from V0.1, but As requested, I added an option to set the minimum required bounty to zero

This will result in Occasiaonal attacks even if you have no bounty in any of the Holds, how exactly this makes sense story wise is something you have to imagine for yourself however.

Another addition is the the new outcome selector

similar to the Event selector in PA you can define what will happen if you get caught by a hunting party. (Its actually a TRUE weighted random function this time).
The new "Go to Camp Outcome" is probably the one you are interested in.

The Ork Camp
the interesting part. Usually you would be going through an entry scene with a similar selector like the one above, but for now this is hard set to an empty scene which will just have the orks go to Bed immediatly and let you start your escape. This is done to preserve my sanity during testing and will be replaced with actual scenes as soon as the escape quest is confirmed stable.

As soon as the orks are asleep, the game will autosave and you are presented with the choice to attempt an escape (you just go to jail if you decline)

The Escape
During your escape, your movement speed is severely reduced and a single hit is enough to recapture you (this also applies to followers). Therefore just sprinting away is usually not an option. You want to be actually sneaky (or just cheese it in one of the myriad ways beth has provided). Fast travel is also disabled until you´ve completed the escape.

You probably want to get you gear and followers back before you go, though. while getting your gear back is relatively straightforward, freeing you followers is slightly more interesting. First, you obviously have to get the cage open. (choices in this textbox don't really matter, I just put them in for giggles)

And after you've managed that, its time to free you followers and decide on a tactic:

As long as you don't get Detected, a freed follower will always follow you closely. The choice here only matters as soon as you are detected. And I think its relatively straightforward.

If you tell them to stay close they will completely ignore combat and keep following you stoically. this doesn't prevent the orks from hitting and recapturing the, though.

If you tell them its everyone for themself, they will attempt to flee on their own and rendezvous with you later if they manage to shake of their pursuers.

tactics can be decided for every follower individually, so you can for example use 1 or 2 followers as bait and tell the to run of on their own, while you attempt to lead your favorite follower to safety yourself.

(From my experience, the Bait tactic works very well :) , but its usually not to healthy for your long term relationships with your followers...)

If you manage to get away from the camp and loose your pursuers, you need to find a bed to rest up and finish the escape quest. Everything from here on is described in the Journal and by the questmarkers. I´m sure you can figure it out.

Failing

Getting recaptured will, once again, result in a selectable scene. And just as the entry scene, its currently hard set to a very simple (and relatively harmless) punishment scene. Will see a lot more creative choices once the current mechanics have proven themselves.
After that is finished, its back to Jail again (stronghold option will come later).

And that concludes our current walkthrough.
On a sidenode, I´ve kept things simple and used the vanilla detection mechanic just as you suggested in the comments. I do think that It indeed does work well enough for now, even if its easy to cheese.

Testing and debugging

To help with these two, I´ve added an MCM option to immediately start an ambush or simulate a camp outcome without having to go through a fight. might be interesting to you as well

I´ve done a lot of testing and don't think there are any egregious errors left, but I would hold offf on using this on a serious playthrough just yet, its still way to experimental for that.
AAAAND, once again, for the love of god, use a fresh save when testing this. please!

Installation

Remove V0.1 if present and then isntall this one with the mod manager of your choice. Run Fnis after that. Done.
No hard requirements, but You want to have SkyUI installed to use the MCM and see the poison-meter on screen. They arent required for the mod to function though.

After starting a new game, you have a 3 day grace period until ambushes can start.

Bug reports are very welcome, but should be as detailed as possible, no matter how insignificant a detail might appear, just include it, I have no problems reading through long texts.

I think that should cover everything for now. Again, sorry for being a bit slow at the moment, I just cant help it sometimes.
I´ll continueworking on the known cosmetic issues for now and start implementing the actual scenes. (I´m just gonna be optimistic here and assume there wont be any major Bugs popping up)

Until then, as always, thank you for your support and patience.
I know its a bit barebones in its current state, but I hope you still get some fun out of it :)

Comments

No apology necessary! I figured that was the case, but I wanted to be sure. Keep up the great work! I'm looking forward to this.

Red Chew Toy

Yes, they will absolutely require a new save. Sorry about that.

Pamatronic

Very cool. Do you think future versions will require a new save? Just trying to figure out which save to start this with.
