Photoshoot: A Hard Day's Night
Added 2020-02-02 19:34:35 +0000 UTCInspired by a recent visit to the August Sander portrait exhibition in Cardiff, this is a collection of black & white headshots presented as a tribute to the album that first introduced me to The Beatles.
A Hard Day's Night was one of two Beatles LPs in my parents' record collection (the other was Help!). I don't know why there weren't more as my dad had been enough of a fan to go and see them in Cardiff Capitol Theatre (he couldn't hear a thing over all the screaming). But I listened and enjoyed, plus it gave me some context when Take That did their Beatles medley!
It was not until many years later that I truly became a Beatles fan in my own right. Like anything I'm passionate about, I threw myself in completely. I wouldn't say I moved to Liverpool JUST because of The Beatles, but it was certainly a deciding factor.
One of the first things Gareth said to me when we started dating was that I'd look lush in black & white. Turns out he was right, even if I do say so myself!
People always tell me that I have a 1960s look and I'm so pleased with the level of authenticity that we have achieved with this shoot. Especially in the smoking shots, I look like I'm about to appear on a late night talk show chatting about something painfully intellectual. But most of all, it's like looking at photos of my mum from that era.
I have uploaded full length versions of each shot, plus a few out-takes from the smoking session (because I absolutely love them).
