While I'm hard at work creating this year's Halloween costume, I thought it might be fun to revisit previous years each Thursday.
Today it's the turn of 2017, when I styled my hair and makeup as the main character from my favourite film of that year, The Love Witch.
Itself a parody of vintage horror and scream queens, the style of the film was psychedelic and garish. Perfect for my colourful eyeshadow palettes and fake eyelashes.
This was actually my first ever photoshoot. I had been painfully camera shy until that point, but with my new lifestyle came new confidence. I only intended to take one or two photos for Twitter, but ended up with nearly one hundred shots.
Yes, they're quite amateurish by my current standards and I'm sure I could revisit the character and do a better job. But I'm still proud of the results for what they represent: new beginnings.
The reaction was so positive when they were posted on Twitter. One of my gay friends, usually quite cynical, was even moved to reply with a "WOW!"
My new-found confidence was cemented and the rest is history 😉
