for me personally, in the Buffy world, it's clear that the Vampire Demon that "takes over them" truly has a lot more to do with the people they were originally than they outright say-- keeping in mind, the Watchers only know so much of Vampires, too, the info is limited by what humans do know in the world. But if you consider Angel originally, pre-vampire, he was not a good person. He was abusive, a drunk, sadistic in a less organized way than his vampire self. The soul is more Conscience/Guilt than it is suddenly becoming a better person. (Even after getting his soul, Angel spent an unnamed number of years homeless, eating rats, feeling sorry for himself, not really doing anything but surviving, until Whistler got him involved with Buffy, then helping Buffy and obsessing/in love with her, a new motivation.) Angel only got his soul for the purpose of feeling that shame for what he did to the Roma princess/daughter he killed that got him cursed with his soul. Spike's vampire demon is clearly bent more towards who he was originally-- loving of Drusilla, a romantic, vicious sometimes but always for a purpose-- he's originally introduced to the series in a mission to heal Drusilla from whatever happened to her in Prague. He does evil things for a purpose. He also does good things for a purpose, it depends on his love at the moment-- very much like original William. I think Spike easily could have been a good vampire without his soul, too, if encouraged to by his love.

I personally love the final season and am excited to see what you think.

Also, I’ll just say… season 7 has some of the BEST monologues of the entire series. The ending of this episode was just a little taste of what’s to come.

I’m interested to see how (and if) your perspective on the Buffy/Spike bathroom scene changes as you progress through season 7. I personally think that it was necessary, especially when you consider what’s to come, but I don’t want to give any spoilers. I just think Spike had to do something unthinkable, like what he did in the bathroom, to realize that a TRUE change was necessary. Without that realization, I don’t think his storyline with Buffy would have been as impactful in season 7.

i love that Buffy doesn't let the "you did not protect her" lines get to her.
She chooses to use humor to deflect them and hey, what ever works for her here.
So messed up that the zombieghosts are trying to use personal anxieties of the humans to get to them. But Buffy
has already accepted both that she can feel exhausted and incapable regarding protecting her family in season 5, and
that she is allowed to feel like she needs to rest, while still protecting them to the best of her abilities.
These attempts at accusations do not get to her here, they are old lame attempts to bring her down, she's over them.

I think Giles is saying we are always who we are, but it's the choices we make that shape our existence.

I'm honestly confused what you mean. I don't really see it, but I'm guessing it's the second paragraph? Better safe than sorry and I take spoilers very seriously, so I'll amend my comment.

Spoilers. You are practically giving away who the big bad is to him? Sorry but not everyone wants to what is going to happen in future episodes.

The principal is portrayed by D.B. Woodhouse, who plays the main role of Amenadiel in the TV series Lucifer, my favorite character of that entire show. I first saw him on Buffy, and I'm such a fan of his mellow voice and smooth delivery of lines as he slips seamlessly into his roles.
Spike was Hostile 17 in the Initiative; that's why Adam called him 17.

Been ages on seeing your reaction to the ending of this episode. Adam saying 17 is what the Intivitive called Spike when they captured him 'Hostive 17'

You have met this "entity" before. It was a single episode , seemingly irrelevant, and a few seasons back.
It's one of those things that was set up but in such a nonchalant way that until its mentioned you won't even think of it.
But I'm so glad we are finally here. This season is , in my opinion, one of the best.

If you like principle Snyder, I suggest watching Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He's pretty much a main char in that show. Similar vibe, same actor, just in hella makeup
