What always gets me in this is Matthew tearing up at the end of the reunion, since he wrote in his book that he basically felt nothing (due to his issues) the day they filmed the last episode.

I sent you a link to a behind the scenes thing where they showed how they made an episode, "The One After Vegas", there is about 1 min of that documentary they used for this, showing them warm up the crowed, and where they tried to come up with the line "Here's where I get all my money back!". But everything else would be new to you, if you did watch it.

Such a good reunion, the only thing I would change was the intolerable James Corden. They should have gotten Conan.

That clip of Jennifer Aniston on the show she’d taped before being cast as Rachel, where she talks about the rare steak… is it just me, or did that come across A LOT like how Kaley Cuoco plays Penny on The Big Bang Theory?

argh, they seem so happy. I hope everyone who worked on the show for those ten years was treated well and was happy afterwards.
... buuuuut ... Matthew Perry's weight loss between s6 and s7 ... his addictions...

I think it's also foolish to argue with other's opinion, I have never state anything I said was "right", that just my feeling after watching the reunion.

I think it is foolish to go into the reunion as a viewer expecting it to have the energy of the show. I never expected that and I don't understand how anyone could. It wasn't about making another episode, it was for celebrating the legacy of the show and it's impact on the world.

i guess so. i'm familiar with this quote from Bright. However, I've also read opinions on how Joey not having the other original friends around made it impossible to have his personality be balanced out and work off of them. They couldn't make him a shallow womanizer again, with no Chandler around, not to mention the show was supposed to happen after all his growth. They tried to make him the more mature heartfelt one but with no connection with the original friends it was
hard to make him seem heartfelt. So making him vulnerable and mopey was basically a byproduct of trying to show his growth while being sad about his closest friends not being around anymore.

Eh, just a lot of assumptions in regards to their relationship. They were aiming for nostalgia and we got it. COVID-19 most likely affected their plans.

I don't think that Matthew saying nobody calls him is true because Lisa, Courtney and Jennifer quite often get together and interract on socials, and I think I've seen Matthew on their photos.
Also all six actors are executive producers of the reunion. So I guess they had a say on how it should look. Lisa said many times in interviews that there was never gonna be a reunion in form of a special episode, so it was probably the best way to celebrate the show and its legacy.

I agree with you, I’m so glad that they got Ross and Rachel together. I wish it had been sooner, but it made for a beautiful final episode.
The cast had only been all together once in 17 years because David Schwimmer moved to New York. So getting all six of them together was challenging.
You may enjoy the recent Conan O’Brian podcast episode with Lisa Kudrow on it. I think the podcast episode is called “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.” She talks about Matthew Perry on that episode, and shares about their experience with dancing in the fountain. It’s very endearing.
I still think you’d appreciate the producer commentary on the DVDs. The ones you’re watching with your gf don’t have all of the deleted scenes. They have some…but not all.
And that beam in the apartment did come and go for a while. Apparently, the directors said that they kept it when James Burrows (a really good sitcom director…his book is great, and Jennifer Aniston was in a night for him and talked about Friends and her experiences w the show…it’s on YouTube & it’s adorable) directed the episode.
Also, I like that you got emotional in this reaction. I cry at Friends a lot, and this reunion definitely made me cry. It’s just a beautiful thing.
If you want a short (11 minutes) extra thing w the reunion, James Corden did a video on YouTube with them. It’s worth a view.
And I would love for you to do another blooper reaction w Friends. There were some main hilarious bloopers missing from the reaction you did.
Thank you for your investment in this show. It means a lot to a lot of people…myself included. I’m so very grateful. 🙏🏻

this reunion is meh, it's all about the money. I see the awkwardness between the cast. I see MP tried so hard to pull it together for his appearance but he just not well. I believe when MP said no one ever call him. I see the Hollywood product to make it so rich, all these random celebrities? James Corden? Lady Gaga??? when they redo all those skit from the show just makes me sad, cause they don't have that young energy anymore, but I think it's the point? to make you enjoy the nostalgic sort of feeling? whoever directed this reunion probably not even a fans of the show, cause this shit is not working lol sorry not tried to be Debbie Downer just got so disappointed for this reunion.

Nick, did you know that the last line of the show with Chandler saying "where?" to them going for coffee was an ad lib by Mathew Perry and of course he would add that like they didn't know exactly where they were going for a last cup of coffee

I absolutely loved that they called Matt and Mathew "Matty" and the fact that they called each other Matty. It was so obvious how much they all cared for each other in those last few scenes. When Jennifer starts to cry and turns into David and he was there as Ross to comfort her and you can hear how difficult it was for her to say her line about whether Monica and Chandler had time for coffee

I don't know why it surprises me that Jon Snow himself Kit Harrington from Game of Thrones loves the "PIVOT" scene and considers himself a Geller.

I hadn’t watched the reunion since it aired, so watching it with you today, I instantly teared up when Matthew Perry appeared on screen. I watched Friends for the first time in 2014. I had seen clips here and there and I knew some story lines but I hadn’t ever sat down and watched it episode by episode. I was going through a really hard time at that time and it really became my comfort show. It still is.

It got destroyed by American Idol back when it was still relatively new. And as far as I know Joey became largely pathetic and depressed. Kevin S. Bright who stayed on to produce and direct that show tried to bring this up to the writers but they didn't listen to his concerns
“On Friends, joey was a womanizer but we enjoyed his exploits and he grew to be a very heartfelt character who cared about the people around him. Ultimately, he was turned into a depressed, mopey guy who couldn't keep a job and couldn't ask a girl out. I felt he was moving in the wrong direction but I was not heard.” —Kevin S. Bright sometime after the cancellation of Joey in mid-2006.
It sounds like the idea of Joey having his own show wasn't the issue but rather poor execution due to a difference in opinion on what to do with the character

I think the thing that I appreciate most about the reunion is seeing them do various scenes again because it reminds you that acting every day for years in the controlled environment of the production of the show is very different than doing it on the spot for special occasion and its easy for us the audience to take the former for granted and think “oh they could just do friends the sequel and it would work.” no that can't be duplicated again ever, even by the same people it would never be what the show was because it was for that time specifically.

You are correct. There was an official answer. Chandler’s job was “data configuration and statistical analysis.”
Kelly
2025-01-31 20:08:23 +0000 UTC
Chandler's job is statistical analysis and data reconfiguration, and then later on junior copywriter in advertising.
Reese Witherspoon is wrong - they did a spin off titled "Joey" that was supposed to be only about Joey and it was cancelled after 2 seasons.
the finale felt satisfying back then, when I was finishing highschool. Today,
it's mostly good.
I wish Rachel would still get her job in Paris and Ross bothered to actually really sacrifice something real. Emma is his daughter, so it's not a stretch asking him to move, at least for the majority of a year.
As for all 3 women and 2 out of 3 men wanting/having kids, I guess that's a product of its time.
Childfree characters who are not presented as 'evil' or 'weird' have appeared on screen more since then, thank goodness.
