Buffy the Vampire Slayer 6x13 FULL Reaction

Buffy the Vampire Slayer 6x13 FULL Reaction

Comments

The 'You always hurt the ones you love pet' and 'please don't forgive me' scenes are in my top scenes of the whole series. Such amazing acting and writing. When Sarah cries I cry.

Amy

I think that it's possible that Dawn was right. I think when Buffy was going to turn herself in, a part of her was relieved at the thought of not doing the slayer thing anymore, not dealing with real life anymore, and possibly being able to keep away from Spike. In previous seasons, Buffy would definitely have thought more about time going wonky and making such a huge mistake. Also, even though Buffy wants to do the right thing for Katrina, is it the right thing for Dawn? What happens to Dawn if Buffy goes to jail? There should have been more things that she considered, but she didn't even attempt to. And I know people will argue that she simply wanted to do the right thing. I'm not saying that's not her primary motivation. Just that she may have felt relief about it and didn't think any harder about it because of that.

I love this episode. I am not a fan of the Trio. The horny, bumbling nerd trope needs to go away. But here, I like what the show does with them, because for the first time, the Three Stooges, as you call them, show themselves as a real threat. When Jonathan said "There's got to be more girls we can kill," he was being sarcastic. I'm not excusing his behavior, but it's an important change in behavior to note. And it's not the first time this has happened. Great reaction, Nick. That ending scene is why I love season 6.

You still think the 3 stooges can’t be the big bad?

Social Kid

Love Nick and usually agree with him but we had such different reactions to so many things in this episode. Early he said something about Buffy being on a date with Jonathon and I was like huh? Then he didn't catch that Jonathon was being sarcastic when he said they could kill more girls when he was clearly feeling guilty. Then the Spike stuff. It's all cool :) i just usually feel a little more "on the same page" with him.

okay after watching your reaction thoughts: -“we gotta turn amy back into a rat” took me out 😂 yes they absolutely should prioritize that! i loved willow threatening Amy last episode though with her little “if you really aren’t, you better stay away from me.”gave me faith vs willow standoff vibes. Willow really is a badass. but like an adorable one 😂 -i’m not going to lie: the trio storyline was really intense and crazy. the whole time i kept thinking “you’re literally going to rape some girl…and they’re making it seem funny??” and then FINALLY Katrina says it out loud “this isn’t a game you freaks it’s rape” and you can see the realization wash over Jonathan and Andrew. this isn’t funny. this isn’t a fantasy, like katrina said. it is RAPE. absolutely horrifying but i’m glad the writers handled it the way they did. -notice how as soon as warren killed katrina he started calling her “it”? nasty dirtbag. -i’m sorry and i usually agree with you, but i HATE the way Spike speaks to Buffy on the balcony. he is literally manipulating her by using her negative thoughts and shame against her. it reminds me of something an abusive partner would say to further isolate her. -I. LOVE. TARA. her energy is so beautiful and understanding. -love the song they played while buffy is outside of spikes crypt 😍 soo moody and 2000’s -Jonathan said i wonder if there’s some more girls we can kill cause he’s mad at warren. he’s being sarcastic -the scene where buffy beats up spike absolutely wrecks me. not because i necessarily feel bad for spike. but because of what Buffy is going through and the way she thinks of herself. it’s just pouring out of her in those moments and SMG kicks ass bringing those emotions forth. i cry even after all these rewatches. -i don’t think i even have to say this but tara and buffy 😭😭😭😭 buffy breaks my fucking heart. she brings instant tears to my eyes when she realizes nothing is “wrong” with her. she was banking on it to explain her emotions. -i am so sorry this is such a long comment (my longest ever!!) but i feel like this episode brings so much to the table i couldn’t help it!!

Wow, we're finally here at Dead Things! I've been waiting for this reaction for so long. This episode is extraordinary and one of the best episodes of the season and Top 20 in the entire show. It has so much incredible, multilayered depth in every single scene and amazing character development for Buffy, Spike, Tara, etc. It's also one of the most misunderstood episodes, even by longtime fans. It's really worth walking through it. I could write an entire essay on just this episode but I wanted to focus on a couple scenes. Sorry for the comment length. The way that the episode opens with Buffy and Spike doing their dance, we immediately see that Buffy is completely satisfied and, most importantly, she's genuinely happy. That by itself is incredible and immediately makes you think, when is the last time in the show that Buffy's ever been that happy? Certainly not in Season 6, but even in Season 5, she soldiered on with grim determination most of the season but we never really saw her *happy.* But here she's laughing (over a joke about eating people!), joking and talking to Spike completely carefree. It's so important what she chooses to talk about too. Her way of starting the conversation is to compliment him on his crypt and how comfortable she feels there and then she says that she wants to fix up her bedroom (to make it just as comfortable). She says that they missed the bed "again" and then later, in Buffy's dream, she dreams about having Spike with her, in her bed, in her room. Buffy's dream is so important. It epitomizes what she's struggling against. Her bed is the one place we never see them ever having sex (beds where "normal" couples have sex). We saw in Gone that she went so far as to lie to him about having his lighter so she could hold onto it herself as a way to remind herself of their time together. But in Buffy's mind, she was utterly convinced that the feelings she's developing for Spike are *because* she was "wrong" on some level. That that's why she wants him to comfort her in her bed. That that's why she trusts him enough to let him use handcuffs on her (note Buffy rubbing her wrists while talking to Tara), etc. The show contrasts words vs. actions with Buffy saying she "never" trusts him but clearly she trusts him a great deal not only with the two of them but also with Dawn - she says it because it's what she's supposed to say, not what she believes. It's also this trust in Spike that sends Buffy directly to Tara about the spell. Buffy could have gone to Tara anytime for over a month during her relationship with Spike but she chooses immediately after this conversation with him? She wanted a rational excuse for why she was falling for him, why she kept letting him in. That's why Tara's revelation rocked Buffy to her core.  If Buffy didn't come back wrong, it means that her feelings for Spike are real, not the result of a botched resurrection. It means that Buffy, one of the most moral people ever, beat Spike almost as bad as Glory for trying to protect her? When Buffy had decided to replace the metaphorical prison that she had been living in since her Resurrection for the real thing. (The alley scene itself deserves 10,000 words on how it’s an incredible hybrid of Faith/Buffy in Season 3 and in S4 Who Are You with the roles reversed). The final scene is also just stunning all around. Tara is the only one in the entire show who acknowledged the redemptive qualities of Spike's love and wondered if Buffy loved him. And it's also interesting that Buffy never actually answers Tara's question. It's just some incredible acting by SMG and Amber. I can't wait to see this reaction!
