Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince FULL Reaction

No one is crying I swear..

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince FULL Reaction

Comments

About not trusting Ginny, in the books the character is better constructed. She kisses him in another event and Harry hides the book alone. She has a powerful personality and loses herself troughout the series.

Larissa Macedo

Tell your partner that her reaction to dumbledore got me crying despite how many times I’ve seen this movie 🤣

April Nicole

You find out why Voldemort doesn't look quite human in the 7th book. It doesn't really explain it in the movies.

Heidi Roush

Love potions - date rape drugs, roofies, that is how Voldemort was fathered. His unhappy, abused mother, had a crush on a muggle, Tom Riddle Sr., and Dumbledore guesses she either used a spell or the roofie. And that's how she became pregnant with Voldie.

Viera Galikova

Snape was the Potion's Master for many many years. he was very adept with potions(remember in Azkaban, Snape caught up with Remus, and Sirius under the Womping Willow and Sirius told Snape to go back to his chemistry set), likely he was tweaking the textbook over the years and when Slughorn got in, Slughorn just put the book in the cupboard with the other textbooks. I'd imagine that Ginny isn't falling for anymore cursed books lol! one in the Chamber of Secrets was plenty...so she probably isn't gonna be tempted lol. Full blood, half blood, and mud blood are all magical wizards/witches. Full blood: both parents are magical with a magical ancestry(draco). Half blood would be one magical parent, and one muggle parent(snape). Mudblood is a witch or wizard where both parents are muggles(hermione). Thats why malfoys and Blacks were related. They marry each other to keep the blood "pure"

If you are considering reading the Harry Potter books ... think about getting the audiobook versions, read by Stephen Fry. Excellant reading. It slows down the experience, and helps all the elements to sink in. Also good for sharing the experience. .... It doesn't beat reading it to each other, however!

As a MH therapist myself, and a husband who just celebrated my 19th Anniversary, I hope Nick is proud/aware of how uniquely special he is. My husband and I met when we were very young, it wasn't legal for us to be married until 2015. So, we go by the point in time that we would have had our wedding. Nick giving Quynh the space to cry without interrupting or attempting to lighten the mood can be excruciatingly painful, but is a crucial thing to do if someone is grieving. Movie/Book, I don't care. Quynh's feelings are real. Nick also gently assured her there was no need to apologize for crying. We need to cry/grieve. There's a physiology to our tears, so I wanted to point out incredible that was to witness. Nick also deserves all the Oscars for his reactions to Quynh's brilliant insights and responding in such an ambiguous manner. PS: I sincerely hope everything I said at the end was nebulous enough. I’ve obviously read the comments above, and don't want to imply or hint at anything.

Was the book she read Life of Pi perhaps? Lion?

Ooh boy, where to begin with this movie. As a translation to the book it was, unfortunately, very lacking, in my opinion. There are a lot of important scenes left out and they even added a completely new scene that wasn't in the books so they had the time. I also really dislike the colour grading in this film, the nearly black and white look makes it a very ugly movie to look at. That being said, the scenes that were translated to film were good and I don't mind watching this movie. I'll try to keep it short but there are a lot of details left out which are interesting to know, so here goes: In the beginning of the book, Harry inherits Sirius' house, from the last movie and the House Elf, Kreacher, which came with it. Fred & George build their business in Diagon Alley from Harry's winnings from the Triwizard Championship from movie 4. Harry gifted it to them for that purpose. The Death Eater that in the shop Borgin & Burke's and later during the attack on the Weasley house was a Werewolf called Fenrir Greyback, he was the Werewolf that bit Remus as a child. Dumbledore and Harry have a lot more dives into the past of Voldemort through many memories collected by Dumbledore. One of the memories shows Voldemort's Muggle father, Tom Riddle, and Witch mother, Merope Mergel. Voldemort's mother was madly in love with his father and used a Love Potion to win his affection. She kept feeding him Love Potions for years until one day she figured that he would love her without the potion so she stopped. This resulted to him leaving her. His mother gave Voldemort up to an orphanage where she died after childbirth. Another memory shows Tom Riddle visiting Hogwarts as an adult. He already starts to look paler and his face becomes more skull-like, but there are still hints of the handsome boy that once was. He applies for Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher, but he's rejected. Since that day, no teacher has made it more than a year filling that post. Snape's mother was a Witch named Eileen Prince, who married a Muggle, last name Snape. This made Snape the Halfblood "Prince". He was prouder of his magic side, obviously. Harry discusses multiple times with Dumbledore that Snape is not to be trusted. Dumbledore does not accept Harry's conclusion and vows that he trusts him with his life. During the invasion of the Death Eaters at Hogwarts, there are teachers, Aurors and members of the Order of the Phoenix fighting the Death Eaters. Bill Weasley, Ron's older brother who we haven't officially met yet, gets attacked by Fenrir Greyback. He was bitten but not while he was transformed, I believe, which didn't transfer the Lycanthropy. When Dumbledore asked Harry to get Snape, Harry went under the Invisibility Cloak. When Dumbledore heard someone coming, he Paralyzed Harry, which made him unable to move to help Dumbledore. When Hagrid's house is attacked, Hagrid tries to fight them off, especially after they hurt his dog, Fang. They tried to stun him but it took a great number of stunning spells to take him down, because of his Giant blood. The scene where the Weasley's house is attacked was not in the books. They added it purely to fit in an action scene. Voldemort had already created a number of Horcruxes before visiting Harry's house to kill him. The spell rebounded and was supposed to kill Voldemort, but he was protected because of his Horcruxes. Harry and Ginny's relationship was much more interesting in the books. Ginny had loved Harry since book 2, she even sent him a Valentine's card in that year. Eventually she tried to get over him by dating other students. I think this is what caused Harry to pay more attention to her, because she wasn't trying so hard anymore with him and Harry started to like her a lot more, eventually making them end up together. The spell, Sectumsempra, that Harry used on Draco was obviously very dangerous and after Snape healed Draco as much as he could, he found Harry and gave him 2 months detention, or something. I personally think the punishment wasn't as severe because Snape probably didn't want anyone to know where Harry learned that spell. In this schoolyear they learn to apparate and disapparate, which is tricky thing to learn. If not done correctly, you can leave pieces of yourself behind, obviously maiming you. Officially, this schoolyear they also start to learn to cast spells without uttering the names of the spells. The movies have kind of been doing that way before this movie. I can't wait to see you guys react to the conclusion, I'll be there with more trivia, facts and knowledge

I feel I need to clear something up, in the 4th movie remember in the memory it was revealed that snape was a deatheater and dumbledore vouched for him saying he was a double agent. Harry did tell the order of the fénix what he saw, so that information of course went to Dumbledor, but all the grown ups told him that it was probably snape doing his job not to get cought being a spy and that he was blinded by his hatred towards snape, so dumbledore new and still decided to trust snape, he even new about Draco’s plans like he explained at the end, but since dumbledore trusted snape Harry also trusted him, and thats why he also didn’t do anything when snape told him to stay quiet, till the end he didnt actually believe snape would kill Dumbledore

Barbi Duarte

In the movies it’s not explained, but there was a curse to Voldemorts name, it was like I signal that you werent afraid or didn’t respect him, so it targeted you as opposing him . that’s why people even after all these years are still afraid to call his name, it was ingrained in all their minds to fear saying it. The deatheaters call Voldemort the dark lord, or my lord, the rest of the people say “you know who”or “he who must not be named”

(Quynh looks so gorgeous!!)

Nick saying Dumbledore, aside from the main three, is the only important character he can see being incredibly sad to lose is very foreshadowing 🥲

sienna silva

Also, ron wasn't being oblivious when he sat himself between ginny and Harry at Christmas, he was deliberately getting between them coz he saw the clear flirting between them and was being a typical big brother

x_Rhi_x

Voldemort looks kind of monsterous/demon-like because he lives a cursed life due to drinking unicorn blood to survive when he was almost destroyed trying to kill Harry. In the first film they mention that anyone who drinks unicorn blood/something so pure, lives a cursed life.

x_Rhi_x

I dont see any spoilers. Only things people have mentioned that are in the books that aren't in any of the films at all

x_Rhi_x

I haven’t read the books but my 6year old says voldemort is bald so no one can make a polyjuice potion of him lol. 😂

This is a huge spoiler. Nick haven't watch the last movies at all. You should erase that part, please, about the spells of the names

Sofía Reyes

You should definitely read the books. I loath the writer but love the books which is a weird combination for me. The books are so detailed and much darker than the movies, definitely worth reading. (Please buy them secondhand tho, so the money goes to someone more deserving) 🥰

You guys are too cute! I love the fact that you spent so much time talking about the film before and after. And I just wanna give Quynh a hug ❤ To clear up the terminology: Muggle - Someone who is not born to magic parents and does not have any magical powers (like the Dursleys). Muggle-born - Witch (female) or wizard (male) born to muggle parents (like Hermione, Lily and Dean Thomas). Squib - Person born into a wizarding family with no magical powers themselves (like Mr. Filch and Mrs. Figg). Pure-blood - Witch or wizard whose parents and grandparents are all wizards (like the Weasleys and the Malfoys). Half-blood - Witch or wizard who has one or more muggle parent or grandparent (like Harry, Snape and Voldemort). Mudblood - Derogatory term used by pure-bloods to refer to half-bloods and muggle-borns (think of the n-word). Also, they are all human (even Voldemort). The original script included all of Dumbledore's memories about Voldemort from the book. That involved Tom's mother Merope Gaunt (a witch) met his father Tom Riddle Sr. (a muggle) and seduced him with a love potion. J.K. Rowling has said it’s important that Voldemort was conceived as a result of force rather than real love, as it explains why he cannot feel love. Merope eventually stopped using the potion hoping Tom would love her, but he abandoned her and their unborn son. Tom eventually tracked down his maternal uncle Morfin Gaunt, stole his family ring (which he was wearing in the flashback with Slughorn and later turned into a horcrux) and murdered his entire family. In the flashback scene in which Dumbledore visits young Tom in the orphanage, a photo on the wall of his room shows the seaside cliff to which Dumbledore and Harry go to in search of the third horcrux. The cliff is where a young Tom once used magic to terrorise his fellow orphans while on a field trip. There are also 7 rocks on the window sill, which is the same numb Lastly, as an adult, Tom returns to Hogwarts to ask Dumbledore for a job as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, but is denied. He cursed it which is why the same teacher cannot be for more than a year. Instead the film adds a (imo) pointless and out-of-nowhere scene of the Weasleys' home getting burned to the ground (the filmmakers said they wanted to add more action). Other things in the book cut from the film are: Snape being half-blood and his mother's maiden name being Prince, hence where he got the name Half-Blood Prince. A long fight sequence between The Order of the Phoenix members and students vs. Death Eaters. Ron's oldest brother Bill Weasley's face becomes disfigured after he is bitten by werewolf Fenrir Greyback (who was in the attack at the beginning, Borgin & Burkes and during the attack on the Weasley home - he is also the one who bit Lupin), but thankfully it isn't a full moon so Bill doesn't become a werewolf. He and Fleur Delacour (from Beauxbatons who competed in the Triwizard Tournament) are engaged at this point. Dumbledore's funeral (initially, I was mad about them cutting it but the scene where everyone raises their wands is so beautiful). There were also scenes with the Dursleys in the beginning and the relationship between Tonks & Lupin is further explored. Harry and Ginny relationship is honestly very poorly executed in the films. There is also NO chemistry between the actors. Ginny's had a crush on Harry since forever but Harry has never shown any interest in her. While in the later books, Harry has a huge crush on Ginny and in HBP they kiss after the Quidditch final, in front of everyone. They are in relationship throughout much of the book but Harry breaks up with her for her safety. Fun facts/answers to some of your questions: Hero Fiennes Tiffin who plays Tom Riddle at age 11 is Ralph Fiennes' nephew (he's 26 years old now!). Christian Coulson, who played Tom Riddle in CoS, expressed an interest in returning for this film, but director David Yates recognised that he was too old for the role, being nearly 30. Dame Maggie Smith finished filming this while undergoing treatment for breast cancer (talk about badass). Jim Broadbent who plays Professor Slughorn also played the professor in Narnia and the owner of the Moulin Rouge in the film of the same name, among others. Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy) was originally cast as Bellatrix but had to drop out due to her pregnancy. She was subsequently cast as Bellatrix's sister and Draco's mother in this film. She died of breast cancer in 2021, aged 52. She was married to actor Damian Lewis at the time of her death. Robert Knox, who played Marcus Belby (the kid from the Slug Club who ate a lot) was tragically stabbed to death when he intervened in a fight to protect his younger brother on May 24th 2008, just a few days after filming wrapped. His murderer was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 20 years before being considered for parole. People are just scared of using his name because they fear his power. That being said, and this is NOT a spoiler because it's not mentioned in the films, but in the last two books Voldemort has put a jinx on his own name in order to trace any witch or wizard who uses it, because he knows that the trio, Dumbledore's Army and the Order are the only ones who would dare speak his name out loud. Thus, whenever his name is spoken aloud, Death Eaters are alerted to their location. And his own followers only refer to him as 'The Dark Lord', again, because of his power, but for the opposite reason (as a sign of respect). Muggles can't see certain types of magic due to an Illusion Charm and a Muggle-Repelling Charm. The car in Chamber of Secrets most likely didn't have a charm attached to it, therefore muggles could see it. As for the Dursleys seeing the cake in the air and Aunt Marge turn into a balloon, that could be because they KNOW about magic (even if they don't believe in it). Also, in case of the bridge collapse, in the book, the Ministry of Magic covers it up by modifying the muggles' memories. Spearmint toothpaste is one of the things Hermione smells with the love potion. It is a reference to earlier when Ron tries to wipe some toothpaste off her face, so essentially she is smelling Ron. Later when they're at the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade, she intentionally leaves some around her mouth in hopes Ron wipes it off, but when he doesn't she is embarrassed. (Also, her parents are dentists. Funny coincidence?). However, in the book she didn't mention the toothpaste at all, but J.K Rowling said in an interview that she was embarrassed because the third thing she smelled was Ron's hair. There is a newspaper article in the beginning about Lucius who is imprisoned in Azkaban at this point, and Draco and his mother dealing with the fallout. Voldemort chose Draco to punish Lucius who had failed him multiple times (like with the diary and the prophecy). The fact that Draco had access in Hogwarts was a bonus. He was testing the vanishing cabinet to bring the Death Eaters inside, who were meant to help him kill Dumbledore. Draco gave Katie Bell the cursed necklace to give to Dumbledore and poisoned Slughorn's bottle that he planned to give to Dumbledore. Also, it isn't specifically said in the film but the initiation ceremony/ritual where Draco gets branded with the Dark Mark and officially becomes a Death Eater takes place in Borgin & Burkes when Harry, Ron and Hermione are watching. Btw, Tom Felton doesn't get enough credit for his performance in this film. On the train, Draco used the spell Petrificus Totalus aka The Full Body-Bind Curse on Harry, which temporarily paralyses the one it is used on. It's the same spell Hermione used on Neville when he tried to prevent them from sneaking out in PS, and, ironically, Neville used it on a Death Eater in OotP. Fred and George paid for their shop with money from Harry which he earned from winning the Triwizard Tournament. Harry also inherited Grimmauld Place and Kreacher the house elf after Sirius' death. And yes, in the shop, there is a figure of Umbridge shouting "I really hate children" and "I will have order!". I don't think Ron really liked Lavender like that, he just liked the attention. Especially because he grew up in the shadow of his siblings (mainly his brothers) and, being Harry Potter's best friend, ends up in his shadow. That's also why he doesn't think Hermione would want him over Harry. Plus, he's a teenage boy filled with raging hormones! I have no explanation as to why Slughorn didn't help Ron, other than he was in a stressful situation and he froze. People react to things differently. Also, while him not seeming to know who Ron is (in spite of the fact that his family, though not rich, is well known in the wizarding world) doesn't really make sense, he clearly has a habit of favouring some students over others, which begs to question whether he actually is as good of a teacher as people (mainly Dumbledore) claim he is. He's definitely not a fair teacher. Then again, Snape isn't fair either. As to why Snape left the book there, it could have been on accident (it was his old classroom after all, since he was the Potions Master) or he used it for notes. Though I have seen a crazy theory that Dumbledore actually confiscated it from Snape when he was a student and at some point passed it on to Slughorn to give to Harry so Harry would get popular with Slughorn. That does sound like something Dumbledore would do! I think the waitress in the beginning is supposed to be a muggle, she just recognised Harry because of the picture in the newspaper. She wasn't in the book. Peter Pettigrew aka "rat face" is also called Wormtail, fake Mad Eye Moody is Barty Crouch Jr. and the Hippogriff is called Buckbeak. The curse where the person has to do whatever they're told is the Imperius Curse. Not so fun fact: This is Daniel Radcliffe's least favorite performance of his in the franchise, stating that he was not very good in it (in his opinion). He also revealed that he was struggling with alcohol at the time of filming and can tell in certain scenes that he was intoxicated (like in the scenes after Harry takes Felix Felicis). Goofs/incorrectly regarded as goofs: The book (and presumably the film as well) is set in 1996, yet the opening scene shows the Millennium Bridge in London getting destroyed - the bridge didn't start to get built until 1998 and was completed in 2000. In the book, it was actually the fictional Brockdale Bridge that got destroyed. No idea why they changed it and used an actual bridge that wasn't built yet. Mr. Weasley uses Voldemort's name when talking to Harry about Draco and the vanishing cabinet. But he NEVER uses his name and even scolded Harry when he did in PoA. However, he may have gotten over the fear of saying Voldemort's name after joining the Order. I don't remember if he said it in the book though. Aragog DOES look a lot smaller here than in CoS. But when Harry and Ron first saw him they were smaller themselves, which would make him look bigger, and the angle is different as well. Also, spiders generally shrivel up pretty fast after dying.

I read this book on the train on my way home from school and I sobbed as quietly as i could lol

Priscila

Was it "A boy and his dream" ? By Sakshi Verma.

Hans Engelen

Omg this intro was so relatable… I also don’t remember the plot of books or shows/movies I’ve consumed. No way I could tell you the plot of a book I read over a year ago but I could tell you how I felt when I read it. The books and movies have the same main plot but all the little details (and some more major ones, like Ginny’s character) bring so much more richness to the story. And I can think of a couple of things in the book that are more intense than the movies portrayed.

kaj

A really traumatic good excellent movie. Let's goooo!
