the librarian said - "Red head, could be a brunette for all i can tell, guess i have to take their word for it" - because he's watching a black-and-white TV. so he's doubting that the person on TV is a read head. ...laughing at the actors calling each other "comrade" and "red"... ? argh, why talk about Blade Runner over the two gay men pretending they're not gay when they see Angel ...... The newspaper which the hotel manager is reading - soviet spy revealed at Hollywood Red inquuiry... people betraying each other by reporting one another for "being a communist" just like Angel was betrayed .... maybe it's a good thing that in high school, history is taught in such a boring ways and teens don't get it yet.

2023-07-13 20:52:54 +0000 UTCOne of the highest ranked episode of the entire show and for good reason. The best one by Tim Minear so far. To appreciate it fully tough you need some context knowledge about the time period in American history and society, about movies to catch all the homages and references, about classic Greek theater (you caught up on the three sides characters commenting on the events as if they were in a play). I like this episode a lot. For the first time we see Angel with a soul but who haven’t met Whistler yet and Buffy who was his catalyst for his path towards redemption. Judy was such a tragic figure. I think that she was kept alive magically by the paranoia demon so he could continue to feed on her. That’s why as soon as she was free from his influence, she died. The reason the demon chose her is explained in the episode. It’s particularly poignant that she had her faith restored in humanity by the words and action of a demon, Angel. But in the end it wasn’t enough to betray the only person who was helping her in order to save her life.
