Angel 1x17 FULL Reaction

One of my favorite episodes of the show so far!  Seeing Angelus again... wow that was awesome!

The whole point of the gypsy curse is that Angel can never experience happiness. In this episode, even a small amount of "synthetic" happiness brought out Angelus. If/when Angel begins to feel happiness with a woman that could trigger Angelus and that was the reason he didn't want to take the case in the first place. Wesley said it... because he liked her. Angel is afraid to risk it.

I can think of two reasons off the top of my head why demons would call themselves demons. The first one would be that they reclaimed the word and the second would be the origin of the word. As it wasn't always meant to descripe something evil. In Greek mythology for example it was the word for some form of spirit or divine power.

I adore this episode. I think it's one of the best standalones in the series. First there's the phenomenal chemistry between Angel and Rebecca, and the talent Rebecca's actress displays in making this complex character so watchable. I'm always surprised by how worried I am about her in the last act despite the truly awful thing she does. It's also a necessary introduction to Angelus and the curse for audiences who may not have seen Buffy season 2, and a striking reminder for those who have. I think it's smart that the episode clearly sets up that Angelus is virtually always present in Angel's mind, only restrained by the soul that empowers him to ignore impulses that an unsouled vampire would indulge. A lot of people find it inconsistent with the "soul" rules set up on Buffy, but I can't talk about why I disagree with this without spoilers. Some day! But regardless of whether it's consistent or not, I think this is more interesting and contributes more meaningfully to the question of choice as the show explores it. And the idea that Angel's soul can be affected by other circumstances than just perfect happiness is quite unnerving.

Wow, they really stretch that definition, haha

She invited him over to "see the episode I didn't win the Emmy for".

When Angel jumped through the window to stop the "stalker" at her house--how?!? He didn't need an invitation to get into her house??

Angel was referring to the 1979 Dracula with Frank Langella. It has a rep for being the worst of all the Dracula films. I don't think it's that bad. It's just a cheese fest and those can be fun. I wouldn't trust Angel's recommendations though, for reasons I will not disclose. ;)

Bella Lugosi played Dracula in 30s and Gary Oldman played Dracula in the 90s. another actor who played Dracula in the late 50s is Sir Christopher Lee

Hypocrisy is unfortunately part of every friendship. Great episode, great reaction, we all knew you would love seeing Angelus
