I feel like this episode demonstrates that most of Angelus' inclination for psychological torment and manipulation, he learned from Darla. That last speech she gave him about how his father's defeat over him would last lifetimes pretty much informed how he would operate from here on out. He learned from her that the physical carnage he would wreak was only rewarding after the psychological carnage/victory first. Though safe to say I think the student surpassed the master eventually on that front lol.
