Revenge of the Sith FULL Reaction

Revenge of the Sith FULL Reaction

Yes that’s what I figured about Luke but Vadar as well. The act of love on both sides came from a place of emotion, desire and attachment (to some extent). Love is neither selfish (Sith) or obligation (Jedi) so you’re right about the true balance of the force.

Totally agree with everything you've said. It's also the same conclusion we learn Luke comes to in the sequel trilogy. And by the end, I think it's safe to say that Rey and Kylo become the first 'grey' Jedi since the original 'grey' Jedi split. Which is the true balance of the force.

Ah, I finally got around to watching this…I agree with a lot of your points at the end regarding the lack of trust they put in Anakin and that if he had Qui-Gon, he may not have turned. You’re right about the acting too. I love how evil Sidious is. So many iconic lines and he’s one of the best villains in this genre hands down. The acting and the final battle between Obi and Anakin still mesmerises me as well. How cool was the lava location and the speed at which they fought? AMAZING! And as you said, you could really feel the growth in their relationship in this one so I really bought the tragedy of their final scenes. Now, since I’m more familiar with this film, I did find myself questioning the deeper themes beyond the story of Anakin becoming Darth Vadar…and I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m not a fan of Yoda or the Jedi philosophy. Anakin was really struggling with his vision of Padme. He was carrying so much pain and fear (which is normal) and yet Yoda’s advice was pretty much “train yourself to get over it.” I take issue with that because to me it seems like being a “master” makes you detached from humanity. There’s a real lack of compassion for Anakin’s struggles and so I don’t consider Yoda to be wise. There is a sense of superiority in the way Yoda and all Jedi masters treat Anakin and they come across as out of touch. And I don’t personally agree with the philosophy that in order to ascend to a state of peace and wisdom that you must detach from emotions or attachments. You say that is hard to do and it is, and perhaps that’s because it’s against our nature/ design? Passion and desire are what makes us human and it’s not something we need to control or overcome but rather something we need to feel, process and understand. In real life, it doesn’t matter how much therapy or meditation you do, I don’t think anyone can ever truly erase that fear of death, pain or loss and that is not a weakness. In the Jedi order, they’re technically soldiers so I understand that “fear” and attachments would be seen as a liability but I just don’t think that is a healthy or aspirational way of life in the long run. So, watching this film I really started to question the paradigm of who is “Good” and “Evil.” I find it interesting that the Jedi are essentially the good guys and the Sith is associated with the dark side. The funny thing is, hearing Palpatine and Anakin discuss the differences between the two, I found myself aligning more with the Sith…(and I’m not evil I promise! 😂) - From my understanding the Sith are evil because they act on their “passion” but it made me wonder what was so wrong about that? Since passion is what motivates us, to me choosing or expressing passion is an act of free will. In order for free will to truly be “free” it does mean suffering is a possibility. However, it also means there is a possibility for love and goodness too. Yet the Sith are only presented as the worst case scenario of that free expression. I actually see the Jedi and the Sith as essentially both sides of the same coin. The council asking Anakin to spy and then Mace Windu saying that Palpatine was too dangerous to be kept alive really shows that the Jedi are not as moral as they seem either. Both Jedi and Sith have certain dogmatic views that I consider dangerous. Jedi are sworn to protect and Sidious gave that ominous speech about “security and safety.” We also saw that whenever Anakin dared to question the council he was treated like a traitor or an outsider, so both sides almost feel like a religion in that sense. So to me, the dark side is not about having emotions, passions, “selfish” ambitions. I think these are natural so it’s rather the suppression of the will through control and dogma that causes problems, not the desire itself (in my opinion). Great reaction as always Thor! :)
