Still working on game, just deleted social media
Added 2024-03-03 12:59:44 +0000 UTCI'm sorry to have to update you guys yet again, I just wanted to reassure you that I don't have any plans of stopping any of my work. I've just decided to fully delete my social media accounts for my own mental health and safety.
I may need a bit of a break, but the plan is to keep going as always- just with no social media.
I also plan to eventually revamp my website to be able to fill in my need for giving public game info, updates, merch updates, stuff like that.

It's very comforting to hear from another dev who experienced something similar. Thank you. I've been working hard to change my mentality lately- mainly in repeating to myself that what other people think of me is none of my business. But on top of that I remember that beneath it all, I am creating art for me. If I can keep those two concepts in mind, I think I can endure nearly anything.

I hope you'll get more time and space to revisit what truly matters to you, in terms of your art but also who Gato is outside of just their art/online-self as well. Some self-righteous trolls may say otherwise, but you're allowed to be a multidimensional, nuanced human being! 😂 May you treat yourself to other meaningful projects, hobbies, and relationships during any rest periods you're in need of. 😊 I imagine these months have been hard and exhausting for you at times, but I sense you're also going to emerge out of this phase as a stronger, discerning advocate for yourself--as evidenced by your past brave actions already (eg. Watermarks, cutting out toxic/hollow interactions that only drain & distract from your greater endgame & core values). You definitely got this, Gato. 💪😉

Like people are losing their empathy or forgetting that everybody else in the world is also a human and not some perfect, heavenly angel. You aren’t the only indie dev that stays out of social media and I think it’s a good move. I know Toby Fox said something about how fandom is for the fans; not the creator; and that it’s best to stay out of it. I love social media for the fanart and fan content; but if there was a better; safer way to access all of it; I’d probably not have socials either. Thank you for all the work you do. You’re only human, just one human, holding the burdens of an entire genre on your shoulders.

You need to do what you need to do to stay mentally healthy and the way the internet functions can make that difficult. Nothing wrong with unplugging or disconnecting from social media. 2024-03-03 13:33:31 +0000 UTCThere was some issue with someone calling out a racist comment that a moderator in the server made (in gato's DMs on patreon), and when Gato replied, a back and forth began and Gato began to get a little defensive, and stuff kinda blew up from there. There's screenshots on a Twitter account but I don't remember the name and idk if I should post it here anyway. I can DM you the name but I personally didn't find the back and forth to be too bad. Still bad, but forgivably so, we all need time and opportunity to learn how to be better, which I trust that Gato has done. She made a post and took responsibility for the poor response, as well as apologized for other various mishandled things, and the deletion of the server was to encourage the fandom to be more independent from the creator and have a healthy distance rather than treating her like an idol. It was also good for Gato's mental health to not have to manage it and to remain focused on the game. If someone else has a better explanation of what happened or if anything I said is wrong, feel free to correct me!
