An overview of my process

Here's an example of how a typical frame will look throughout the week as I work on a chunk :D My chunks vary in size but they're usually 9-12 frames long. 

Monday: I know that looks like ass but the point of thumbing is mostly just to decide how a frame will be composed. A lot of the day is spent thinking. I look at my script a lot, which is formatted like this:

[Farz, arms down] I don’t fucking care what you want, you psycho! I’m not doing it!

[Farz is smashed against the wall beside the woman by a longclaw]

[closer shot, Farz is struggling, woman crawling away]

So I have to make a lot of decisions. Where will the camera be? How close will the shot be? What should be in the frame? I also write out my dialogue to reference later, and so that I can compose the frame with the text in mind.

Tuesday: Sketch day is tough work since I need to refine all the details and really get things looking how I want them to in the final version. I need to make sure my backgrounds make sense and get all the finer things drawn. Strade's outfit is a major pain in my ass.

Wednesday: I love wednesdays. Inking involves WAY less thinking than Monday or Tuesday. I usually zone out to some music and just spend all day tracing over my sketch. It still takes up a ton of time though, especially in this current chapter. It's very detail and line heavy.

Thursday: Also a fairly relaxing day. Colouring the backgrounds is usually pretty simple and it's not as important to get them perfect. Laying character flats is also a pretty mindless activity.

Friday: Back to the hard work. Character shading is tougher and takes me a lot of time. I tend to get caught up in trying to make things look just right. The metal in this chapter takes FOREVER to shade. I also hand write all my dialogue at this point and add that stroke around it. Sometimes I add in some special effects too, like motion blur. When I do that, I make a flattened duplicate of the frame to mess around with and blur, and keep the one with the separate layers underneath it just in case something comes up or I need to make a change.
