Hey Guys!
So it turns out the continued sluggishness on PL is due to an ongoing DDoS attack. It is terribly unfortunate timing, as we had just finished prepping extra content for supporters of our last comic and we were in the process of distributing it on PL when the attack began. Some past supporters have been able to view said content between attacks despite us not yet having made any posts about it though. (Hope you guys have enjoyed it!)
Our original plan concerning this extra content was to release it shortly after the end of our last comic as a "thank you" to all of our supporters during that time. As many of you are well aware, however, Patreon suddenly decided right around that time that they didn't want that sort of content on their site anymore, so we had to scramble to meet their demands or be removed from the platform. This caused us a significant amount of trouble and forced us to put finishing that extra content on the back burner and work on it only during what little free time we had when we weren't working on Something Different. Thankfully Patreon came down on us right as the previous comic was finished or we would have been in a much worse position!
The aforementioned content cannot be posted here on Patreon, so it is disheartening that the current DDoS attack on PL is making it difficult to access, but we are looking into short term solutions while the admin of the site looks into a long term fix for the problem.
This brings us to the situation with the current comic, Something Different. It is, as far as we know, acceptable under Patreon's ever-changing rules, so for the time being we will be uploading all pages that haven't been publicly released here on Patreon to make things easier for you all.
You may ask why we don't just upload it all here regardless, and the reason is that we just can't trust Patreon not to come after us again for it. The content rules on this site are constantly changing and are often contradictory. One employee will say one thing, while another will say the opposite. This has been the case with many artists we have been in contact with, including ourselves. It has left us feeling uncertain about Patreon and how they will react to any given piece that we upload at any given time. This particular issue is one big reason why we use PL. The benefit of being able to consolidate all of our commercial and non-commercial content into one single place for ease of access for both past and present supporters is the other major reason. It allows us to add content to past projects and be sure that anyone who should be able to get access to it is able to, no matter how long it has been since that project was released.
It also allows us to occasionally help out people who have been having a hard time. This past year many have contacted us and told us how they've had to stop supporting because of joblessness or covid restrictions making it harder to get by. We totally understand that; we're feeling it too. By using PrimeLeap we were able to give those people at least slightly longer access to content while they were struggling as our way of saying "thank you". Many thought it was a bug, but it was intentional. We know what it's like to count pennies in your bank account, and while we make these comics to feed ourselves and get by, we also hope they brighten people's day.
So, while we will be uploading what content we are able to here on Patreon for the very near future, once PL has sorted out its issues and moved to new hardware, uploads will resume there as normal. The admin of PL is expecting to take the site fully offline for improvements later this month and bring it back online at the start of January, so hopefully we'll be able to get back to business as usual at that time.
I rambled a lot here, but the bulk of it is: We have reasons for using PL. The current situation is unfortunate, but we'll continue to provide content in the best ways we can until the issue is resolved. The PL Admins are working to improve the site with a possible restoration date being in January of 2022.
Thank you all so much for your patience and understanding. These comics wouldn't exist without you.
On a less serious note, I've provided the logic for Kindle's fashion faux pas. Sometimes fantasy doesn't quite match reality!
