Next page is now live! This one was a crazy one with appearance from a few FF characters you guys might recognize ;)! A few of these characters shown were originally designed by Maim and Syrinoth during their respective FF seasons!
So this page was kind of interesting to me, from my own inside perspective I suppose. I imagine from an outside perspective it just looks like a fun orgy-tastic page~! Which I hope it is!
But in case anyone's interested in my mind's workings, I'll a babble just a little bit about why I find this one interesting...
When I first read the script for this particular scene, my initial reaction was something longer. Probably this scene would have taken me about 2-3 pages to do normally. I think a lot of that has to do with how I feel about pacing, story telling and how I was taught. I have a bit of an animation background, and I always remember it being drilled in to my head to show everything. Show everything in the storyboards. Show everything in the leika. Always make your poses clear cut and readable.
So when I read the scene about Thistle going door to door, my brain wants to show each beat as it progresses. One of the things I've been trying to keep in the back of my mind, though, is condensing. Trying to, where I can, better tell the story in a way that doesn't take 50 pages. I'm still learning, but I thought how I tackled this page was a good step towards trying that. Instead of playing out this scene by being a daunting series of events against Thistle's goal, I tried to round out the page with the same goal in mind, but finishing it with a tiny bit of humour to make it feel complete as a scene as a whole.
The other thing that kind of stuck out to me in my solution to condense was the vertical panel on the left. I don't usually do vertical panels very often. I don't quite feel comfortable with them and how they break up a page. Some of that might have to do with being a westerner and reading left to right horizontally, versus up and down vertically. Vertical panels feel like they break up the flow to me, but I'm hoping I can get a better handle on them and maybe my brain will start putting forward more of them when I draw out thumbnails in the future.
I feel like I had a couple of more points I had in the back of my mind stewing around as I worked on this, but unfortunately I'm coming up blank now that I've finally got 'er done. So I guess that's all I'll say for now. Hope you guys like this page, and see a couple of characters you might recognize ;)!
