[Poll] Mp4 or WebM?
Added 2020-07-03 00:49:19 +0000 UTCSomething I've been meaning to ask you for a while now, which format do you prefer for my animations: Mp4, WebM or both?

Oh wow that was very clarifying, I didn't know that! Guess I'll keep uploading Mp4 and WebM versions then, thank you very much! That's settled then :P

2020-07-04 00:39:30 +0000 UTCI'd say both. WebM is great because and it uses open, royalty-free coding formats - VP8 and VP9 which are very similar in performance (sometimes better) than AVC and HEVC respectively. In comparison AVC and HEVC contain technologies patented by many different corporations and using those formats requires paying license fees and royalties. One of the corporations that holds these patents is Apple - this is why you can't natively play WebM's on Apple products and in Safari - they intentionally don't support them to force various online services like Youtube, Twitch, Netflix etc. to still use AVC/HEVC and pay those license fees. So yeah, unfortunately right now it's essential to use mp4 if you want apple users to have easy access to your animations.
