Chat Room Maps
Added 2023-12-18 15:46:05 +0000 UTCThis is my to-do list for the January release, I’m planning many updates to the online chat room maps. If you have ideas or suggestions on how to improve that system, please post them here.
- New player MapData server transaction. The player map position could be uploaded on its own packet for lighter traffic and faster refreshes of other characters.
- Whispers: Add a whisper toggle button somewhere to allow whispering to a character that’s in a tile next to you.
- Walls must block vision: Make it so players cannot see the tiles hidden behind walls, maybe create some kind of line-of-sight function and don’t draw tiles that are not in the line-of-sight.
- Leashes: If a character is leashed, she would still be able to move on the map but could not go beyond two tiles away from the leash holder. When the leash holder moves, that player would be forced to follow her if she’s farther than two tiles away.
- Lots of new tiles and objects in grouped in themes for: Regular House, Medieval/Fantasy, College, Asylum, Night Club, etc.
Doors, Locked Doors, One-way Gates, Windows & Tunnels: These new tiles objects could be inserted into walls and would block entry based on the player condition.
- Doors: These could only be entered if the character can interact with others.
- Locked Doors: Same as regular door, but only room admins could enter them.
- One-way Gates: Can only be entered from one direction (Up, Down, Left or Right)
- Windows: Could only be entered if the player isn’t kneeling, hogtied or on all fours.
- Tunnels: Could only be entered if the player is kneeling, hogtied or on all fours.
New preference parameter to force leaving a map at the entry point. Players would be able to check a box in their parameters to force them to leave the room if they are close enough to the entry point, maybe a three tiles range. For map only chat rooms. Hardcore and Extreme players could be forced to have this one checked. EDIT: A merge request from Kalina is already in the pipeline for that one so it will be a team project.
Allow room admins to scroll the map when in edit mode, so they don’t have to walk with their character to edit it. Give infinite sight range in that case.
Better compatibility for mobile users. Test the map feature on many types of mobile devices to make sure the UI works and is convenient.

2023-12-20 02:53:17 +0000 UTCI'm thinking there might need to be other "Admin powers" that would be needed. - Maybe allow Admins to see the whole map, even through blocked things. And see all activity. - (Maybe the "things that you're seeing, because you're Admin" could be greyed or something? So that the Admin can role play that he's not seeing/hearing them, unless an intervention is needed?)

Getting information like a description from clicked tiles would also be useful but trickier to implement. Would also like teleporters/stairways that set coordinates, but figure that stuff is already in the works! Love the update! Keep up the great work!

2023-12-19 11:03:35 +0000 UTCI could see lots of "admin powers" that might be nice, or necessary (depending on circumstances). - If sight/sounds have a range limitation (and I think they should be), then maybe Admins should be exceptions, and their feed would show everything? Maybe "you're only seeing this because you're an Admin" things would be dimmed? So that admins could role play that they're not hearing this, unless they think it's necessary to intervene?

2023-12-19 10:47:36 +0000 UTCIm no coding scientist so may not work this way. But could maybe set it up so only map rooms with a trap tag on it can use traps as a preventative measure for potential abuse?

Passive (like traps) and active (switches for doors or something). - Doors could have optional keys - for more realistic prisons or escape room games. - A member list for room admins to kick (or otherwise administrate) people, so he/she doesn't need to search for them on the big map when they clog the map.

2023-12-18 19:18:28 +0000 UTCMight be hard to achieve. Or at least with a cost, since you currently can switch between normal and map mode back and forth. Normal rooms hardly support more then 10 players (art would be too small for my taste).

2023-12-18 19:14:12 +0000 UTCI was thinking about making it so that, to click on another player, one must be in an adjacent square, and able to enter the square (if it weren't occupied). Maybe non-adjacent could read profiles. But no applying restraints or changing clothes.
