So wigs can be intimidating I know but im here to give some very important tips that are super simple that will make your life so so much easier!
So let's get started! (disclaimer i'm not a professional this is just what works for me)
CUTTING:
First off its important to have correct cutting tools, a set of styling scissors off amazon isn't that expensive thank goodness and is a very worthy investment. Something like this would be a great starter set!
But mainly im here to talk about these scissors in particular because I hardly use anything else .
These are called thinning shears and I like them because they don't cut exactly in a straight line. Like their name they are used to thin. These are great for cresting very natural layers, movement and lines on a wig. I use these for everything. Idk they just work for me.
DETANGLING:
Next up is detangling because wigs really really like to WIG out (im hilarious don't lie) No but really wigs can get messy FAST! Even faster than normal human hair so first we will talk about how to get out tangles and then how to prevent them!
I'll start by saying this now PATIENCE IS EVERYTHING WHEN DEALING WITH TANGLES
If you have tangles in your wig start by gently combing through your wig with your fingers.wig respond best to finger combing as usually the tangles are just bigger knots from transport and nothing truly serious! If you can get through your entire wig without a brush that's what I recommend most.
If the tangle are most tiny and really really knotted gently separate that section of hair from all the rest and use wide tooth comb and work through the tangles bottom up. Working small and slow and patient until all knots are gone
BUT AS FOR PREVENTION
For long hair wigs! I use this sprayable silicone to coat my wig in and then brush into the fibers. Once the wig fibers are coated in the silicon and have fully dried the wig fibers will slide off each other far more easily rather than sticking together and creating a tangle or knot. You don't even need to use that much! A great investment
Tangle prevention tip number 2!
When storing a long wig it is best to braid the wig into a loose braid! This helps keep the fibers together so they don't catch on anything. If you don't have wall space i suggest then storing the wig into a large gallon plastic bag. But if you do have wall space hang you wigs up using command hooks.
MOVING ON
BASIC STYLING TIPS:
First off buy a basic styrofoam wig head off amazon or from local craft store like so
If you can and have the funds I also suggest buying a wig stand. Either clamp for tripod style i personally prefer tripod but that is more expensive
To begin styling I like to secure my wig to the wig head by snapping the two wig fasteners in the back under the chin of the wig head. Like so this snuggly keeps the wig to the head so it doesn't move around while brush of styling!
FOR FLOOFY WIGS!
For wigs like bakugou or Deku or Shinsou or Kirishima like have plus ultra volume what i personally like to do is just flip the wig upside down and just like give it a real good shake to fluff it up and run my fingers through it to create extra poof and then add hella hairspray and let it dry upside down.
This is the best hair spray you could possibly buy. Like seriously this will get the job done every time
I LOVE THIS HAIRSPRAY
BASIC WIG COLORING
Make this wig --> into this wig!
Wig dying only works with making a lighter color into a darker color. So far as I know you can not bleach a wig. Dying is for when you find the base wig you really need and you just can't find the right color sooo you dye it! Making a blue more vibrant or turning a white wig bring orange! I will say that dying works best if you start with a platinum blonde or white wig!
The way I dyed this wig was by using Rit dye!
This one right here!
So first and foremost for dying anything be it clothes or wigs, you'll want a giant pot that will be specifically for dye or alternatively you can get disposable aluminum pans from the market. The point is you don't want to use it for food later.
Fill the vessel be it pot or whatever with enough water to completely submerge the wig in and then let the water boil. After The water is boiling add the dye and stir. And reduce to a simmer. Gently submerge wig and stir into the dye.Your wig WILL get tangled no matter what just gotta accept that now. Anyways The longer the wig is in the dye the more vibrant the color will be. You can also do test swatches before the full wig to check but I wanted my wig full bright orange so i left it in for 20-30 min.
I then extracted the dyed wig using tongs and brought to a clean empty sink where i washed it with dish soap and rinsed until no soap remained. I used an old towel to roll my wig up in and squeezed to dry off. I placed my wig on my wig head and stand and began the long process of combing out all the inevitable tangles. Oof. once tangles are mostly gone you can take a hair straightener on a low heat setting and run it through the wig to sooth its frizzle. Do NOT move slowly with the straightener as too much heat will fry a wig like normal hair. Once wig is restored and dyed it is ready to style!
WHERE TO BUY WIGS
Of course you can find many a wig on amazon but does that mean they will always be good? Nope. shopping for wigs on amazon must be done with a grain of salt. Wigs are not always how they appear in pictures and you must accept that you might have to return something of shitty quality. Look for reviews with pictures and make sure you are picky! I find so many wigs on amazon but it's a gamble sometimes.
If you are looking for pretty much guaranteed quality i would trust Arda. Yes it will probably be more expensive but the wigs are thick and they have styles a plenty. Great store to buy from! All their wigs are heat resistant which is crucial for dying or straightening a wig!
Extra tip: if you are looking for a style of wig with no bangs then i will always always recommend getting a lace front wig. Is it more expensive? Yes but if you have the money the quality and look of a lace front is worth the extra money when creating your costume look.
Annnnnnddddd thats all i can remember for now but i hope that helps a bit!
THANKKKK YOUUUUUUU

2020-07-09 23:54:13 +0000 UTCSo helpful!! Thinning shears are the best things in life. Also if you’re looking for assistance in getting those nice face framing layers to go with bangs (instead of it just chopping across and ending), looking into learning how to slide cut! It’s super easy and crazy helpful for making them happen
