I have begun serious work on my capstone update for Harem Camp. This is basically spit and polish for Harem Camp, which is a big game with a lot of content all the way through it.
One of the main things I realize is that my approach to making games has changed a lot since I finished Harem Camp. I still see echoes of that approach even now, but I have streamlined a lot of stuff. In particular there’s a lot of RNG of which triggers can trigger when and I’m making it easier to trigger all the various scenes. There are a lot of small tweaks to UI to make the game more playable. Steam lined some systems which were from my current perspective overly complex and unrelated to the lewd content. The girls’ job system is going to be seriously overhauled to have both more interactivity and feedback and be better looped into the world. So now I’m massaging it so in the early game you’ll assign the girls infrastructure jobs to set up the camp, then, once that’s done and you’ve raised their corruption you can assign them lewder jobs, or they will interact with some existing jobs with increasingly lewd methods.
For new content I’m mostly finding stuff that feels like it should be there and filling it in as necessary. It’s nice to have a fresh perspective and look at something with new eyes. I’m adding in a bunch of small incidental scenes with a few different increasingly lewd variants. That seems like a thing that fits into Harem Camp really well.
One thing is that I’m reluctant to significantly retool old content. That’s a trap that many games have fallen into in the past and I don’t want to end up in a loop of updating old content. There are a couple things I want to tweak but they will be minor tweaks. I’ve redone a couple animations. It’s a difficult choice because my style for animations has improved a lot since Harem Camp but I don’t want to make the new content feel too different from the old content. This has made me a bit nostalgic for the setting and characters, but if I want to seriously revisit them I’ll do that after I finish up Live in Corruption. I have enough projects on the back burner.
Everything is thus far going fine. Later this month I’ll have some previews to show. Expect the update on my normal schedule.
