Work In Progress - Black Elf Dress Skirt Frenzy

Well, after doing the first working rig for this outfit and trying to smoothen it, I quickly realized that this is probably the worst skirt type to weightpaint I ever worked with :D

The worst thing is that you have a narrow skirt and you try to keep the legs geometry there. It's just impossible to avoid clipping

From one side It's fitted and you need to really watch out around the calf and tigh bones.

From the other side I wanted the skirt to move at least a little bit independently in the back.

I even watched a smp tutorial, but it seemed too much work for me (smp works better with loose clothing) and the result was still uncertain.

Thus I came to some conclusions:

- I will eliminate the clipping just in the walking, running and sneaking poses.

- I will incorporate two skirt bones (see the last image) to add some volume behind and to calm the train behaviour a bit.

- I will add some skirt volume here and there to make some space for boots.

It starts to work already. The walking and running is quite ok, but there are still some spots left to fix. I showed them in the captures.

Keep your fingers crossed guys :)

K.

Indeed, sometimes I waste some time on failing with certain ideas or setups, but there is always a lesson learned. Apart from this, it's tough to keep the balance between "want" and "have to" in case of running a Patreon page ;) You always feel a bit more forced to do sth new and satisfy your Patrons. But still life has its own ways and often the initial schedule has to be changed, as you said, to keep your own pace.

I'm sorry to he that Saturday was a frustrated day, but please don't forget that you must be free to work along at your own pace, otherwise it will become a chore and then that will be the end of Kozakowy's beautiful works. If you could keep the slender lines of your original design that would be wonderful, and as for crossed legs...ignore them! :D

Great news! :) I'm already excited to read more of your writing with Morticia :) I also really hope this dress will be ready this month. I'd be more than happy if Morticia liked it.

I have to say really that I lost a whole Saturday on failing with this skirt rig ;) As for your idea to gain more room for the legs. I'm trying to achieve something in between right now with the skirt bones. They help to keep the skirt a bit away from the body. But I'd really love to keep the original slender shape of the skirt. If this fails I'll be testing some other trickery ;) But for now I have to push the geometry a bit away from the body only in problematic spots. I think I'll ignore what happens in the poses when the legs are crossed ;)

I forgot to say that I suspect that a certain vampiress with a predilection for black might be re-established in my stories and this dress would really make her look something special! :)

To be honest, my dear Koza, you must have the patience of a saint to undertake all this amazing work...as well as a love for it, of course! I know that this is probably too late to bring it up, but would it be better to relocate the top of the train to the small of the back so that the shape clings to but also falls over the derriere? This should mean that the back panels of the train are pushed further away from the thighs and calves so giving room to prevent clipping of the legs through the fabric. This would mean that the side panels of the train would need to be relocated to the top of the hips to maintain the natural shape of the sides in keeping with the rear panels. As with the rear panels, relocating the top of the side panels to the top of the hips will force those panels further out from the body allowing more room for the thighs and calves to move/pose without clipping If that's just amateurish hogwash, please just ignore it! :D
