I finally started to redesign the recently banned Leto Headdress into The Mythic Dawn Priestess Headress.
I gave the previous no 6 sketch a go in 3d and went somewhat into details with it.
So, to model the multilayer halo I created 5 layers - front to back:
1. The organic sunrays
2. The linear sunrays
3. The structural wire halo
4. The back super organic rays layer 1
5. The back super organic rays layer 2
Well, this arrangement worked quite well for me when I looked at it in 3dsMax, but problems started to appear after putting all this into Substance Painter.
Originally, I wanted to keep the previous mask structure and work only on the small details but it seemed that the previous mask doesn't fit the new halo design.
So I started all the materials over and tested like 3 or 4 different designs and finally creating a centered medallion and scattering smaller circular elements around, started to look quite convincing. I also had to add some organic quality to all of the elements by hand painting the wire-mesh and texture on flat-gold elements.
I will experiment a bit more with the medallions and colors but probably keep gold plus black. I also have to create the back of the mask ;)
I may have to get rid of two lowest rays but I'll check it later on.
