End of Year: 2024
Added 2024-12-30 17:00:11 +0000 UTCHello! Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
This is one of those long yearly recap posts, so if you're not interested in the details, the bundle is here:
Download: 2024 Patreon Bundle (.zip)
NOTE: Some browsers have a hard time with .zip files. If the download isn't working, make sure to right-click and 'save as', or try a different browser.
Now I'm going to pick some highlights from throughout the year, as a reflection on not just our productivity, but on the continued creative evolution of the asset series and this patreon page:
------
Major Releases:
(The Elements Character Expansion 1 was technically published in February this year. But it was mostly made the year before and was released as a patron preview at the new year, so we're not gonna count it for 2024 productivity)
Lots of variety with the full pack releases!
This year was a big one for supporting alternative styles, including some modern high-end stuff like the Monsters which are designed to work alongside multiple general pixel art styles.
Of course, now that we've shown plenty of love to the alternate styles, 2025's gonna be about the next thing for Elements!
Game Jams:
The mouse game was cool, but ended up not being a very ambitious project.
Twilight Lantern on the other hand, is something that I'm very proud of. If it weren't for a weird disqualification, I think it could have won the jam contest-- it was the top-rated game for most of the judging period. But it was never about winning; game jams are a way to boost your motivation with something new, and I think we've come up with something pretty solid here!
I'm making TwiLan into a full game as a side project. Who knows when it'll get finished (the game stuff can't be my priority, patreon assets comes first), but hopefully you'll see more progress on Twilight Lantern next year!
2024 Patreon Highlights:
Mirror Palace Biome and Monster
Mirror Entity Sprites, Mirror Palace Tileset, Mirror World Tileset
A new biome inspired by a monster that was based on a patron request. It's fun when these sorts of creative biomes come up naturally like that-- it shows that even when we thought we've been everywhere, Time Fantasy has more worlds to discover!
Natural History Museum Tilesets
Another set that was a patron idea that kept growing! Made in three parts throughout September, and then even got a unique version for the Omega Modern style.
Post Apocalypse Tilesets
Like the other highlights, this is a patron-requested series, though these developed throughout the year. These began in the spring and ended up with a full series that provides a significant addition to the Future Fantasy set.
The Summer of Monsters!
This is the a one and will likely be the defining release of this year.
For three months, every Monday had a new monster sprite with unique action-combat animations. I even put them into a game demo to make sure that all of the animations looked good in action.
I had a lot of fun (even though it was a ton of work) when letting loose with animated monsters-- and patrons liked it too; enough that we extended it into an extra month.
------
Okay-- that's it for today.
We'll revisit our future plans more in-depth another time. There's a lot of ideas that I'm looking forward to building up! Maybe we can do a poll to decide what to prioritize...
In the mean-time: I'll be back in a day or two with the first request thread for January, and then next Monday with the first real post of the new year. See you soon.
Have a Happy New Year, and let's look forward to many more. 🥳
Be safe out there. Thanks for everything. 🥰
