2019 Game Plan

Hello! Today I want to share with you my plans going forward for 2019.

If you're looking for new graphics today, you can skip this one. If you're interested in what's coming up, then continue reading. It's been a while since I posted this kind of update --

Last year, 2018, was great, and I got done just about everything that I had planned! And now Omega Modern has been released  -- it's time to look forward!

I have similar big plans for releases and projects for this year.

Of course -- it should go without saying -- I'll also be continuing to work on patron requests and regular releases for you guys along the way! I usually devote two workdays each week to this patreon, filling requests and sharing new releases, and that isn't going to change.

------

1. Future Fantasy

The next big expansion for the Time Fantasy series will include the long-awaited sci-fi tiles.  I've been working on these sets on and off for the past four or five months.  This is one that I was planning on finishing up last year -- but as always with these kinds of things, I kept expanding on it to make it bigger and better. I think it's worth it!

My goal is to finish this one before the end of the month -- that means that I'll be putting the final touches on this expansion pack THIS WEEK -- this will be the first Time Fantasy release of 2019, and I'm planning on having it ready for a patron beta within the next few weeks, and launch sometime in February.

1.5. Time Fantasy Icons

I also want to finish up the series of expanded icons that I started last year. This isn't going to be a special dedicated expansion release, so I'm not counting it as a major project -- but it's definitely something on the "to-do" list for the first half of 2019.

I'll be releasing these as I make them, so of course if you have suggestions and requests for more icons, share them in the request threads. Once I have a big enough collection, I'll probably compile them all into another download for patrons, similar to what I did for the Beast Tribes character set.

2. Time Fantasy Faces

I know-- I owe these ones to you. This was a patron reward, but I've been putting it off because I've had so much other stuff to work on. But now that Omega Modern's finally behind me, and the Future Fantasy expansion is nearly finished: I'll finally be able to focus on these next.

I'll be working on these over the next couple of months, and I'll release them to patrons as I complete them-- probably in sets of eight. Once they're finished, I'll compile them into an expansion pack for release. I'm aiming to have these all finished before the end of Spring.

And that is the last significant Time Fantasy expansion that I have planned, as of now.

3. Pixel Art Book and Video Course

You might be aware of my old series of Pixel Art Tutorials. I want to revisit these, rewrite them, and significantly expand on them. I've improved tremendously in the time since I originally wrote them, and want to share the knowledge and experience that I've gained over the past decade doing pixel art.

I'm planning on making a "how to pixel art" book out of this, and self-publish it. I could easily write a hundred pages or so on the subject-- I think that the hard part will be to avoid writing too much!

After that, I have plans to convert that information to a video Udemy course. I don't really have any experience making videos, so we'll see how it turns out...

Anyway -- patrons will get free copies of the book when it's finished! :-)

4. Izel's Observatory

My final major project for this year will be to complete an actual game -- you might remember Izel's Observatory, my contest entry for the 2018 Indie Game Making Contest. The game ended up coming in second place (no prize money for second, sadly).

I'll be expanding on the contest prototype, and turning Izel into a full game. I'm planning on keeping it fairly short and I don't want to get too ambitious-- but the positive reception for the prototype has convinced me that its worthwhile to make it into something real.

I'll be working on Izel slowly, and in my "weekend time" -- while prioritizing the asset packs, regular patron updates, etc, during the work week. But because I'm able to build on top of the existing prototype, I'm hoping to have the game finished before the year is over.

------

I think that's it for now.  I'm excited to start working on these projects!

It should go without saying that none of this would be possible without your support. I'm incredibly thankful that I'm able to devote myself full time to working on these pixel art assets.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments-- if you have any questions, suggestions, or anything else.

No more new graphics planned for this week -- I'll be back in a couple of days for the January end-of-month review thread, and then after that for the patron request thread for February. See you then.

Thanks!

Looking forward to the Future Fantasy! I've been wanting that and thinking about trying to make some stuff myself, but it seems you got it covered :D Love your work <3

Great news! Looks like it will be another productive year for you. I'm especially excited about the pixel art book. And the sci-fi expansion of course.
