Patreon Exclusive Livestream Tomorrow!

Good afternoon Patrons!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I'll be doing a two-hour Patreon exclusive livestream tomorrow from 9:00 AM, Japan time (check what time that will be in your timezone here). The livestream will be available for everyone in the $5 tier and above, and as usual, I'll be doing my best to answer questions related to Japanese pronunciation and life / work in Japan. Hope to see all of you there, and best of luck with your future studies!

Best from Beppu,

Dōgen

Hi, Tyler. JP here, Dōgen's business partner. I'm helping manage the messages here on Patreon. Because there are a lot of variables involved, you may want to speak with a professional who is qualified to help you figure out the best visa for you. If you are working for a company, you will need to speak with them about working in Japan as well—having an employee working in another country can sometimes introduce some complications for the employer. I know this isn't much, but I hope it helps!

Hi, Christopher. JP here, Dōgen's business partner. I'm helping manage the messages here on Patreon. You have some good points. Japan has many different visas, each with their own requirements. It can be tricky to find the right one, but it's important to find the visa that fits your planned activities. I don't think it's materialized yet, but I've heard some talk in the news somewhat recently about something like a digital nomad visa. Here's hoping it becomes a reality!

Japan doesn’t really have Visas that are friendly towards foreigners living there with foreign employment or so called digital nomads. The exception is international companies that sponsor your Visa. They distinctly want you as a tourist or as a qualified individual who is needed by a company with presence in the country. I would be there if that were the case. They have a Visa for artists that can prove they can live off their own art created there. I would be willing to bet that’s the Visa that most social media /YouTubers people end up with. (This is my own research from some time ago, so it might have changed.)

Hey Dogen! I’m excited for the Q&A; in the past you’ve mentioned that the “ideal” way to live in Japan as a foreigner is to have a job that isn’t with a Japanese company so you don’t have to experience the negatives of Japanese work culture. However, even though I do have a means of supporting myself, what visa would help me to live in Japan and keep my current job?
