"The Oakwood Pass canal was the product of the monumental effort of a single nearby village, who saw an opportunity as trade ships passed by their narrow strip of land, taking the long way around to the other side of the mountain pass. Once the laborers finished filling the canal after the lock gates had been raised to position, the village blossomed into a regional trade center. For a modest fee, any trade vessels could bypass the long voyage around the cape and reach the cities beyond the mountains through their gates.

Not five years later, the risks of riches became apparent. Plagued by bandits, taxes, and everything in between, the citizens of Oakwood Pass are beyond exhaustion. Nobles feud over which fiefdom should contain it, while none offer protection from the piracy, leaving them to fend for themselves. Still, money can solve some of the world's problems, and there's much work to be found for the eager mercenary or guard-for-hire.

Even with such security to be bought, many of the residents look back on such a time before the burden of the canal and the attention it brough upon them with a deep yearning for times lost. Still, one must look to the future if one is to survive such prosperity."

Last map of the month for you to round off your 3! This one was a suggestion by one of you lovely people, and a great idea - I don't think I've seen any canal boat DnD maps.

I've included and empty version and the boats as separate .pngs so you can move them around to your hearts content. I had wanted to do a city version of this map but it just wasn't working. I think I'll have to revisit it and try again when I build on this theme in another one.

Get in to the discord and give me some fresh suggestions for next months batch of maps! Anyone got anything Christmas related?
