"Now well within the mountain's womb, the caverns gave way to the cut stone walls of a temple of sorts. For the first time in much of our travels we found ourselves not alone, yet somehow alone all the same.
The corridors gave way on each side to alcoves and small chambers, some containing effigies, even a statue of a great horned deity. The chambers and halls were far from uninhabited.
Our first run ins with the cloaked, masked inhabitants was startling, then peculiar. They walked past us, going about their ritualistic processions in single file, chanting in tongues unknown. Not once were we addressed in our explorations of their territory, and we could not tell if they had not seen us, or had not interest enough in us to break from their practiced liturgy. Their robes covered themselves entirely, and only the briefest glints could be seen behind the eyelets of their horned masks.
It was when we found the sarcophagi that we realized the necromantic nature of our surroundings. More unnerving, we had to wonder if we were the only entities here that could be counted among the living."
Hey all,
♫Going deeper underground♫
Plenty of rooms for your players to explore with this one. Don't ask me what's going on with the chained tomb in the centre of the green liquid but whatever it is I'm sure it's a great idea to open it up and have a look.
I've included a little guide with this map to explain the tunnels and secret rooms but left things like the glowing green orb room up to your own imagination - I figure it's totally not a trap.
Last map of the month will be following hot on the heals of this one and will explore what's beneath the trap door right at the top.
