UPDATE: Patreon is staying the same

Patreon has reversed their decision to roll out changes to the pledge system. Below is a link to an official statement from Patreon.

Blog Post: https://blog.patreon.com/not-rolling-out-fees-change/

In our previous announcement on this topic, we mentioned that we were planning to increase the amount of our recordings and quality by 10% to compensate for the fee increase.  Those changes in fees will no longer be happening, but we still plan on increasing the amount and quantity of our work for our patrons (along with future expansions of what we offer). The support you all give us each month is invaluable to our creative endeavors and we want to continue to keep improving the value of our work for our audience no matter what happens on Patreon.

Fiona and I are very grateful that Patreon responded to the concerns of their creative community, and we appreciate how they make the financial backing of our creative projects possible. We also want to thank you our patrons for sticking with us during the confusion. Your support means so much to us and we hope that we can continue to earn it in 2018. Thank you again for everything  and Happy Holidays.

As for future changes, we will keep you updated as things go along.  If you have any questions please feel free to ask them below and I will answer them the best I can.

I am looking into this issue. I am aware of VAT, but there is no "Patreon Added Tax" that is not a thing. There may be additional fess or taxes based upon your location other that the UK VAT tax but that is just a guess on my part. What I can say is that Patreon charges all patrons the same amount initially in US dollars and then if there are taxes that apply from your government those costs are then applied. So patrons are all charged the same amount for their pledge which is $5 but the changes after that occur once taxes are applied. I do want you to know I am contacting the support staff to get a better explanation of what you paid because I am finding it confusing also but as far as changing the the total amounts people in the UK pay there is not much I can do because of the VAT tax. I will contact you when I get answer from the support staff. I also included some links about Patron's charging policies so you can see where I am getting my info. Are you aware that UK Patron's pay far more than US Patrons do for the same service? This month, for instance, I paid £5.53 and currently the exchange rate is $1.33 to the £. This means my payment is $7.35 part of this is VAT (Value Added Tax) which is 20% ie $1.00, the rest seems to be PAT, Patreon Added Tax. I have asked them to explain why the massive disparity. I await their response, but maybe the creators can ask why too.
