Vote in the Song vs. Song poll! (Also normal service resuming soon)
Added 2020-09-07 15:08:56 +0000 UTCI am done with my hiatus and it has been an *extremely expensive* month and I seriously need to get right back to work, hard at it, so don't worry, I'll be making new videos soon. But in any case, I need some last-minute votes in the Song vs. Song poll, where we're doing "Torn" vs. "Stay (I Missed You)"! Please vote! Vote twice!

Late note: I just read the Mariah autobiography and was reminded of how much Todd loves Mariah!! Talk about Mariah here Todd!!! Do it! You’ll finally have an opinion that aligns with the gays!!
2020-10-16 04:40:40 +0000 UTCWhy did Todd take this down from Youtube? Did the original creator of the song talk to him on Twitter again?

2020-09-22 18:30:52 +0000 UTC2AM all the way. It's sincere. Her voice is great for the song. It has a nice build. And it reminds me of someone... Maybe a one hit Wonderland? I don't think anything else she ever did went anywhere.

2020-09-12 15:17:06 +0000 UTC... can we get you to do 3AM by Matchbox 20 vs Breathe (2AM) by Anna Nalick?

2020-09-09 23:31:33 +0000 UTCTorn is a well-crafted pop song with quite the hook, and as such it is almost instantly irritating. It is also kind of well-trodden heart-break ground lyrically. Stay is much less conventional in structure and far more complex and particular in it's description of a relationship. I could listen to Torn perhaps once a year and Stay perhaps once a month without wanting to turn it off immediately.
2020-09-09 17:56:44 +0000 UTCStay just sticks with me, always, because the girl I was dating at the time loved it (she also thought Enigma's Return to Innocence was the greatest thing in the world, so basically my taste in music and women is questionable) - but while Torn was a good pop song, Stay was a lucid dream of lost love and unrelenting naval gazing! It's so incredibly vapid and yet utterly endearing. In the end, it probably comes down to I'd have a beer with Natalie, but I'd cry into night with Lisa. So, yeah.

2020-09-08 23:32:42 +0000 UTCShe didn't write "Torn." It had gone through multiple other singers before it ended up with her.

2020-09-08 19:56:24 +0000 UTC"Stay" is one of THE songs of the Nineties, and I'll get my nose-bloodied by anybody who says otherwise. "Torn" is still overplayed on the radio today, just like twenty-something years ago.

2020-09-08 17:14:24 +0000 UTCEither I've never heard "Stay", or it's so forgettable that I've forgotten having ever heard it. Regardless, Natalie Imbruglia's sense of poetry is more interesting (and devastating), and her sense of melody more memorable. As much as the chorus is just the infamous "4 chords of pop music", the verses are actually pretty distinctive.
2020-09-08 02:43:43 +0000 UTCBoth sound very interesting! But I've voted for Torn since it's probably got more of a history with all its different versions
2020-09-08 02:41:45 +0000 UTCI mean, "Stay" is no "I do".

2020-09-07 20:31:06 +0000 UTCAre these the kind of songs where I'd recognize them if I heard them? Because I swear neither the song names nor even the artist names spark recognition at all. Who are these people

2020-09-07 17:59:43 +0000 UTCThanks for the reminder, Todd! Hoping we'll get a 1967 "A Whiter Shade of Pale" vs "Strawberry Fields Forever" episode someday. 😊 (I didn't know they came out in the same year until a few minutes ago, woah...)
