POP SONG REVIEW: "Without Me" by Halsey

This looks like a job for me!

POP SONG REVIEW: "Without Me" by Halsey

Snitches get you know what >:( ;)

Feels Like Lorde released her album a year too late for it to tare up the charts. All of the Lorde wannabes (Alessia Cara, Daya, etc.) had all faded out by the time she dropped Melodrama.

I would encourage you to review the music you're passionate about instead of being restricted by the limitations of "the format."

Max Eliaser

Todd: "You know what Halsey song I also really like?" Everyone: "...please don't say Closer..."

Patrick McMahon

The song isn't outright bad, but it is bland. At least compared to the video. The tune of Without me sounds like the intro to a Lorde song. Whereas the set-pieces in the video evoke something more passionate like Pink's "What About Us" or contrast like Of Monsters and Men's "Little Talks." Instead we get a song that never gets going.

Honestly for whatever reason... I really love "Without Me". I admit though I kind of do have this weird appreciation of Halsey who I first learned was a thing because of that Castle song off the Hutsman Winter's War movie (you know the prequel/Sequel of Snow White and the Huntsman that no one asked for that is surprisngly better then Snow White and the Huntsman because it just focuses on Chris Hemsworth being charming and amusing... not Ragnarok levels amusing but still funny enough to be watchable) and then she really wound up taking off thanks to the Chainsmokers collab "closer" to a couple of years later score her own number one hit. Then again as Todd put it "the only actual pop star diva we have right now" Ariana Grande only scored her first number one last year with "thank u next" though now has another one as " 7 Rings" is the top hit at the moment so maybe only now have these ladies really hit their zenith. And I'm also not the biggest fan of slow moody songs but Halsey's voice and the vibe of this song work for me. Is it an authetnic relationship and will G-Eazy really be super sorry he broke up with her? Who knows (though yeah I had forgotten G-Eazy was a thing so thanks for reminding me of that Todd heh heh) but I still dig it. Still I like this one for Todd detailing actually why he wound up enjoying pop stars and why we now have this different stretch and still adjusting to that especially when ones like Halsey make songs like this. As well as admitting how boring a lot of indie movies can be. Like some are good but others honestly get wayyyyyyyyy more hype then they deserve but anyway yeah solid ep regardless.

Holy crap! Another Todd episode dropping on my birthday?!

Yvette

seconded! this is my go-to "go wild" karaoke song so i'm all for it

I think the biggest problem with these "big" stars is that you never know where the person/artist stops and the marketing begins.

Robert

Guess who's back, back again? Halsey's back, tell a friend. Seriously, Todd should have played the Eminem song as the ending theme. He used the Nine Inch Nails song when he reviewed Closer.

I was about to go to bed, checked twitter, saw you posted this and hopped out of said bed and rushed to my computer. I've been waiting for this.

Shawn Mendes?

James Wymer

i'm just waiting for halsey to be one of your patreon supporters now tbh

surasshu

Maybe it’s my computer but every time I click the thumbnail it says that the page doesn’t exist

Curtis Charles

I don't know if Charlie Puth is still relevant honestly. As soon as his new album came out, he stopped having hits. The only male pop singer with any possible clout at this point is Ed Sheeran (since Maroon 5 is so void of personality these days that they may as well be Hatsune Miku).

Jacqueline Sailer

Seriously considering making a Twitter. Also realizing I may be a terrible person

Sarah Wampler

"It feels like she's the one person who figured it out, who cracked the code" - was that a Royals reference?

Nowhere Girl

Am I the only one who finds Lorde immensely overrated? Like seriously Royals is one of my most hated songs of all time, it's just so fucking pretentious and proud of itself that it drives me up the wall, I hated that song the first time I heard it and it's only gotten worse with each passing listen, i'd seriously rather listen to Creed then that insipid fucking song.

LifeIsStrange

I am HERE for this Colors solidarity, Mr. Shadows.

Josh Spicer

Todd finally explains why I care enough about pop music to watch these videos

Nowhere Girl

The hell? Odd error, fixing now

Todd in the Shadows

finally someone who recognises the genius that is colors! (also about that last thing you have my word todd 👍)

Loeko

Trust me Todd, if you want a REAL American version of Lorde, look no further than Billie Eilish. Seriously, THAT chick is slowly climbing the charts with her latest hit. Let's see what your take on THAT one is.

Tom Carter

FYI, the video and audio of you talking don't match at around 9:20. Idk if it's just timed off or if it's a different clip dubbed over
