The best thing about this show is when it reminds me of a song I'd somehow totally forgotten. Thanks Todd!

Someone has already mentioned it, but the Neil Cicierega mashup that has this as the primary sample (among other things including Homer Simpson, Korn, MIA, Rammstein, Phil Collins, Disturbed, Third Eye Blind, Mario Paint, and Austin Powers) is actually where I first heard this...

I knew exactly one fact about this song before watching this video: my late grandma loooved it! She used to play it a lot when me and my brother were kids. She had first heard it when she lived in South Africa incidentally, and it was one of her favorites ever since, hehe.
Was really fun to learn more about it, got me all nostalgic too. ^^

I remember Disneyland did a parody of this song back in 1999 or 2000. I remember they changed the lyrics to something like: "In the summertime when the weather is hot, come to Disneyland, and we can have some fun!" I remember it so clearly. I remember singing it down the street from my hotel all the way to the park when it aired, so I know I didn't just dream it or whatever (also, that's good marketing, haha). It's a shame I can't find a copy of it anywhere on YT or anywhere else online.

Debbie Downer 2017 has the poppy summer song it needs in Carly Rae Jepsen's "Cut To The Feeling", but it remains to be seen whether the charts take notice.

Maybe this is why you remember it having burps... <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBmoQSHfO2U" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBmoQSHfO2U</a>

...I first heard this in a Neil Cicierega mashup, and had no idea it was a real song. Wow.

Jesus Christ, is this Pat Smear's character from the video for "Everlong?"

I just thought "We haven't had a Todd video in a bit", opened my email, and this was here!

I didn't say it was bad, I said it was dumb. Honestly I don't think I'd have a "worst part of the '70s," I like the '70s mostly, I guess the worst stuff would be around '73 or '74. The other decades, though, yeah, I've also noticed this about myself.

You sure do seem to hate the first couple years of every decade. You've said the early 60s and 70s were both dumb, you mentioned that the early 80s don't even feel like the 80s, you say how bad the early 90s were every time you talk about them, and I seem to recall you once saying that 2000 and 2001 were the two worst years for pop music.

7:14 contains what is, I'm sure, a TOTALLY COINCIDENTAL cut between a discussion of rich girls and Katy Perry.

and this is why I need to watch to the end first - turns out Big Jump and the one before it were both labelled Army-War-thing, which actually came next. Anyway, was just thinking it was about time for a new Todd in the Shadows episode. Thanks!

Todd, don't you if you re-edit for small things like this, but it looks like you labelled Big Jump with the name of the previous song (Words Words Army War More Words)

You know, every time I find myself thinking, "Hey, it's been a while since Todd posted a video," without fail, a day or two later, you post something new. Kudos on keeping up such a consistent schedule.
