She was kind of obsessed with Australia, back in the 90's, and she vicariously turned me on to their music and aboriginal culture. I think she had a bit of a crush on Mr. Garrett, and I don't blame her. As a young boy, I really admired how he lived (lives?) his activism. That, and M.O. are just a kick-ass and underrated (State-side, at least) band. For fresh Australian sounds, I recommend Hiatus Kaiyote. Cheers from Washington.

Also I adore World Party's "Ship of Fools" but I suddenly understand why people look at me weird when I try to reference things like School of Fish or World Party.

You mentioned the Hoodoo Guru's, you guys need to listen to 'what's my scene'. Also check out Paul Kelly, he's basically and Australian Bob Dylan but less pretentious.

I requested the platonic ideal of a motivational song ("Man in Motion (St. Elmo's Fire)") when I started my new job and the platonic ideal of a romantic song ("I Love You Always Forever") when my wife died. I can't wait to find out what platonic ideal of a song I'll pay entirely too much for next time.
