"Dear Future Husband" by Meghan Trainor - A pop song review

Comments

Is it OK if I really want to punch her for this song?

Aimee Thorne

I think if the person singing this song had been 8, I might have been prepared to forgive her. Hell, if it even came across as ironic (or sinister) I might have had some positive feelings for it. But nope. Nothing. Another great video. Thanks Todd!

I haven't checked the billboard top 100 recently - I really hope that this song isn't about what the average quality of pop songs are these days. Ugh. I can totally see why she praised Rae Lynn of "God Made Girls" fame. Apparently she did come from a family that sang in church, but it was a Methodist church in Massachusetts.

Brett

Ugh... I'm still really bad at that. Will tweak it.

Todd in the Shadows

Hey, if you're still tweaking this, I found the levels on song too loud & you too quiet. Otherwise, great review!

Jon Heiman

Dear god Todd, sound balance. Full-volume on the source song is way, way louder than you are. Cycles between too-loud and too-quiet rapidly.

Kah

Right? I kept hoping she would come on to show what a solid relationship looks like or whatever.

Madeline Fey

Little bit surprised Lindsay didn't make a cameo, if anything for a comic jab.

Josh Spicer

I don't think I can correctly and fully express that somebody has finally managed to rightfully say all that I truly think about Meghan Trainor and her singles.

Josh Spicer

I haven't even seen it yet, but I am so very much happy that this became a review. After your brushing off of Bass as "meh" and not doing Lips, it was nice to see her be addressed proper.

Josh Spicer

You have to support with at least $10.00 to be on the thing.

Madeline Fey

Hate to be that guy, but audio's acting up again... Anyway, I thought from the start that you were too nice about All About That Bass, I hated that song from the first time I heard it (which was in your episode by the way). And this... somehow seems to be the same thing, but even worse somehow.

I'm the same age as Meghan Trainor, and I find it personally offensive for ANYONE to insinuate that this is what a twenty year old girl wants from a marriage. Like, I like to think I've moved on past the "Dear Future Husband give me flowers and love me stage" from when I was fifteen and now have thegeneral idea that marriage is a partnership and a commitment to another person. Meghan, you're making us look bad! Though seriously, I just find it weird that this is what somebody wants from a relationship. I admit to thinking about my "future husband" or whatever, it's not as middle school as one thinks, but it's not something you do to like, tell them off. It's what you do to make yourself feel better about being single. This is my idea of marriage, from a junior in college: a man who loves and me and supports me through my endless schooling (I want to go to medical school), and I'll love and support him through all of his whatever he does. That's it. Like, we just have eachother's back. And anyway, I also happen to have a nuclear family with a mom and dad, and three brothers who all are related to me by the same parents. My mom cooks dinner and stayed at home for sixteen years. But my mom is also a school board member and started a non-profit when I was eleven. You CAN be something as a stay-at-home mom, people!

I was really looking forward to a "Finish the Rhyme!" on "I'll be sleeping on the left side of the bed..." but at least we did get a NOT A RHYME buzzer.

Oh my goodness that song is so bad on so many levels. I liked his previous hit a few years ago, but the line "I've got her / And she's got me / And you've got that ass" is just the worst.

Jonathan P

This is one of two songs out right now that I object to on an ethical level and not just musical. The other one is that song where Andy Grammer sings about going out to a bar, NOT cheating on his girlfriend, and then acting like he deserves a cookie for it.

Brad Riegner

lol great review Todd and wow does trainer even knows what marriage is or is she 50 yrs behind XD haha also I would never get married that high maintence chick
