I think another effect of Oliver Anthony’s original take is to give people some weird quasi activist energy when they get angry at people using welfare. If you have to actually try and take down the ruling class, it’s too hard. But if you just have to give fellow poor Americans the red pill and make them less “dependent” on the government to take action, it’s quite a bit easier to feel good about yourself.
