considering hosting bonus videos on Nebula as well as Patreon
Added 2023-02-07 17:06:30 +0000 UTChey folks! hope you are rocking and rolling and doing well. i'm considering hosting these bonus videos on Nebula as well as continuing to host them on Patreon, but wanted to make sure that's not a betrayal to anyone here.
i want to be as transparent about this as possible! there have been some changes at Nebula recently that make it way more appealing financially to drive subscriptions there, with my referral link. so i want to add a little to what people are getting by doing so. direct support here on Patreon is still better for me overall, but Nebula sign ups (i get a third of your sub continually if you sign up using my link) and watch time revenue (no idea, but it's been a good few bucks so far) are good money too.
so yeah! i'd keep posting them here and there at the same time. let me know what you think, and feel free to Patreon message me if you don't want to comment it here!

2023-02-07 19:45:09 +0000 UTCi would love to hear that too haha. i think it's neat when people take a money path that matches what they care about. some channels have the "cool" factor that makes building a fashion label out of it the perfect move, sometimes it feels forced. sometimes people insist on not running a Patreon, some people run a Patreon that feels like an unnecessary cash grab. it's a weird market, and always hard to balance art with monetization, but at the end of the day i'm just so god damn glad patreon exists. hopefully a more artist-friendly alternative appears someday, and smaller creators get to keep more of their money. but there's nothing else like it right now and i really have it to thank for my whole life currently, in addition to all of you kind souls.

I wonder if long term that could end up costing creators more than it helps?

This is pretty inside baseball, but I'd love to hear creator's thoughts on the various platforms independent creators and outlets use and how to create more ethical funding for the arts. Patreon seems like it's been a godsend, and Nebula is an up and coming name, but these are still for-profit corporations; they just have different revenue models. I don't expect a response to such a broad topic, these questions have just been rattling around in my brain for the past year or so and this post reminded me of them.

The Patreon vids are a fun little extra but my main joy comes from enabling you to keep being creative on whatever platform you choose.
