[Restoration] Sneak Peak #8: Marksmanship! Ease of Hit! Status effect potions! Goblins!

It's been a while since we did one of these, so here's another going over plans for the next public update.

The first major planned change for the upcoming 0.6 early alpha update will be the addition of the Marksmanship combat attribute. Markmanship will be used to scale up physical damage for ranged weapons like bows, crossbows, and firearms instead of using Strength, which never made a lot of sense. This means units like the dark elf raider ambusher will deal less damage with their dagger attack and prefer ranged weapons in order to deal damage.

The other major change to combat is the addition of the Ease of Hit statistic (this may be renamed in the future.) This is a combat statistic that is not gained by training, but as a consequence of the body a character is in, as well as certain status effects.

Ease of Hit makes it easier or harder to hit a certain character and is a flat addition or subtraction to the chance of hitting a particular target. For example, the Small form trait gives fairies a -10 ease of hit, meaning the base accuracy of attacks against them are 10% less likely to land, and it becomes more important to have high-precision characters be able to strike them. Similarly, the tanky Minotaur has a +10 ease of hit due to their larger body size, meaning it's 10% more likely for an attack to successfully land against them.

Some status effects also affect ease of hit. For example, the pixie prank Grown and Shrunken also make it easier or harder to hit the affected character, and the moon nymph's Umbra Obscura combat ability that gives the status effect of the same name shrouds the target in shadow, granting them negative ease of hit as a result.

This change will very likely break some existing builds, so all games migrated to this version or beyond will receive a Skill Reset Token which will rest the player and all companions' skill points (in or out of party) to allow for re-allocation of all existing skill points. Additionally, a number of equipment bonuses and status effects will be changed up to better fit either a melee or ranged build.

Also coming up are Status Effect potions.

Like the existing potions of Lustrecia, vitality, or transformation potions, these are one-time-use items that can be given the player, companions, or followers to grant them temporary buffs to certain combat attributes. For example, the Potion of Toughness (Brief) grants the consumer +2 toughness for two hours. Over time more potions will be added that grant more powerful status effects, as well as last longer. Similar potions are also planned to have short-term enhancements for the player and companions that boost adventuring stats as well.

Finally... Goblins!

Warriors can come in small packages. Next update will incorporate these classic, short green-skinned fellows in the form of Goblin Looters. This is the first art for Restoration created by GobblinArts. Go check out more of her work! https://www.deviantart.com/globbinarts

That's all for now!
