If you are a patron in The Realm Traveler tier (thank you very much!) or are else considering it, here are the guidelines that will help turn ideas into reality in The Restoration of Aphrodisia!
Before starting, we personally highly recommend compiling your request into a Google Doc so everything is one place and can be shared directly with the artist!
------
First off, your characters should be original characters (OCs), or characters that you own. Characters from existing fictional or nonfiction is not allowed for copyright reasons.
Second, ensure the character is aged 18+, and looks it, too (no Loli).
From there, try to find three good reference images of that character if you have any.
If you don't have any reference images, try your best to write up how they look: skin tone, hair style, pose, eye color, what clothes they wear, any scars or other marks or tattoos, etc. Don't be afraid to use images from the internet to show what you mean!
Third, think about where this Realm Traveler should show up in the world. We highly recommend these to be in towns, safe areas that aren't tied strongly to any single quests. Optimal areas would be places like the Made Mare Tavern in Greenridge Valley or The Drunken Starfish in Aledock town.
In contrast, places like the Tidwell Mines, Blackjaw Crag, or Hatfellow's Estate are quite bad places to put a Realm Traveler as they are strongly tied to certain quests and the player may not be able to revisit them.
Fourth, write up how this character might respond to a few simple questions the player character might ask when discovering your Realm Traveler. These questions could be like:
a) Hello, who are you?
b) How did you get here?
c) Where did you come from?
d) What do you do for a living?
e) Do you have any advice for an adventurer?
etc. Keep these responses to under 1000 characters, which is about 2-4 paragraphs. There should not be more than seven dialogue options in total, either.
Please be aware we may need to revise some dialogue choices for the sake of fitting into the world lore. The best way to discuss this is reach out to out on Discord.
Once everything is set, we'll reach out to one of the existing artists we work with routinely to commission artwork of the character along with several facial expression variants in the manner of most custom-art NPCs (NPCs that aren't a static version of a dynamic form).
