We touched on this subject briefly at last week's sneak peak, but now we have some actual progress to show!
The campaign customization now allows for tweaking of some of the most commonly stated issues that players said they disliked or found too punishing, particularly in the early game. When starting a new game, the sliders above can now be tweaked to change certain variables within ranges.
For example, setting NPC Healing and Soothing Services cost will now make it half as expensive as before. Setting merchant gold amount to 3x means they'll have thrice their initial starting values (plus their usual random range modification) to trade with.
As developers we will be doing most playtesting and balancing with all of these set to their initial values. When Restoration goes up on Steam and if it has achievements, some may be disabled if non-default values are used.
The other open question is whether to allow this customization only at the start of a new campaign or at anytime. Anytime is a little misleading as the player would have to wait for some things to expire before seeing the updated costs in cases like follower recruitment. Others, like NPC healing and soothing costs, would apply automatically.
We haven't yet touched on any customization options for battles, but likely we'll have a few preset options that give all allied companions+followers a permanent status effect, similar to veterancy, that gives all friendly units extra outgoing damage and reducing incoming damage, or to do the same for enemy units for more of a challenge.
That's all for now!
