Update: General & Update Cycles, Development

Hey everyone,

I hope you had a nice week!

Today I can finally give you the next and improved version of the Benchmark scene.

Please keep in mind this is still "only" the Benchmark Project where we gather knowledge and test things.


General:

At the moment there are too many things on my plate (Game Development, Patreon Viewer, Animations, weekly Updates, Research, Game Design, Art Design, Management, Family, etc.) and I need to slow down a bit and focus more on less things at a time to not burn out and actually enjoy work. I am currently lacking the peace of mind to really sit back, properly think about things, plan and then execute. I am rushing from one update to the next and it´s honestly not so much fun. And I should and want to exercise a lot more, which is really important.

So what I want to try is simply taking more time for tasks. I just recently read an interview from another artist, mentioning that it takes weeks for 1 animation loop to prepare, animate & render. The interview was very expiring and the stuff looks great! He simply takes his time to really polish stuff and delivers top notch content. And that´s what I also want to go back to. I think weeks for a simple loop is too long and I would be bored. But the general approach of taking time to create something great is definitely the right approach.

And it´s not only the content itself, it´s also the preparations and management of things. It´s vital for the next projects to have everything done properly, not rushed and in an orderly way. I fell really not at ease when things are not clearly structured & managed and that also takes time. 

Beginning with October I also want to change the update cycles to every 2 weeks. If you remember I did that already before and it was much more relaxed, the quality improved and I could get more things done. Because, at least now, having a weekly update takes quite a lot of time that causes delays on other ends. So we are going to try that starting October. Most likely I will go back to weekly updates anyway, once we have more content and cool stuff to show. As I mentioned in previous updates, we have to work on lots of "boring" stuff right now and don´t have a lot to show anyway. 

So please excuse when things will take a bit longer, it will definitely be worth it! And you have known me for so long already that you know I am not just talking, I also deliver. So thank you very much for your trust and patience!

Puh, great to have that off my chest! 

Side note: I will also try to get more help on things content&management wise. But it's not easy to find good, affordable and trustable people. I am on it ;)

Last but not least I would like you to participate in the poll of what we should focus on next. Since 2 big projects at once is simply too much, I would like your opinion on that. 

Both things are fun to do and the any future production will benefit from what we do. So it´s really just about what you would like to have first.

Oh that's a nice surprise! We have more stuff in the scene, shader Quality of the characters is a lot more complex than then the Unreal character and we have better performance :) Unreal rocks :)

Huuge improvement having Brittany to explore with as opposed the the UE default character. The locomotion animations are way better than I was expecting. Hir walk especially... oof! *chef's kiss* ^_^ Seems like the performance is better too. Previously I think had the 3D set to 95% and was getting ~33 FPS at 4K. Now I'm running a 100% and getting ~37 FPS at 4K.
