State of the Struggle

Hey Strugglers!

It’s been a while since our last update and we’d like to remedy that with this announcement. We’re making some changes to the Patreon, and the way we develop and drop content. The first change is that we will be granting all of you access to the full DS catalog, no matter the tier you are subscribed to. We think it’s more fun (and better for feedback & development) if every patron has access to the full suite of content we make. The new tier structure we’re considering will look like:

If you’re still subscribed to the Struggle Buddy or Plunderer tiers, don't worry! We will give you the same content permissions as our new Hedge Mage tier. Thank you for your stalwart support! While we haven’t made these changes just yet, we will be shuttering the Plunderer tier soon. Let us know your thoughts about the new plan!

Moving forward, we’d like to diversify the kinds of stuff we make. We want to expand on the 200+ items that comprise the bulk of our catalog. This means: more monsters, more worldbuilding, access to Work in Progress art, and potentially some non-5e content! We will still drop magic items, but that’s no longer our primary focus. The new Patreon structure we’ve proposed should give us more flexibility to explore a wider variety of homebrew ideas.

From the beginning of the Dungeon Strugglers, our goal was - and still is - to create, Kickstart and publish a 5e compatible book with our own style, flavor and unique narrative and mechanical content. One of the issues we’ve faced in developing this book is that we adhere to an overly rigid structure for our Patreon content drops. Our desire to make our work polished, high quality and formatted in a familiar way meant that we’ve been withholding our backlog of WIP, exploratory content. The thing is, we love seeing behind the scenes (concept art for games and movies is probably our biggest inspiration), and we have loads of sketches and ideas that we want to share with you. We’re going to include rough drafts and diverse art styles in the final book, so we need to make room for that in the Patreon as well. Giving you access to BTS WIP content will also open the door for more feedback-driven development, so you can strike while the iron is hot!

Thank you so much for your patience, community and support! We’re super excited to share what we’re brewing next. If you have any questions or concerns, let us know here on Patreon, in our Discord, or shoot us an email at dungeonstrugglers@gmail.com.

Much love,
August & Tom, The Dungeon Strugglers

Hi! I'm still on the Naturalist (Early Bird) tier. What tier would that equate to moving forward?
